A bath full of roses
The first Montale rose that is perfect for me, the way it is!

In the prelude a fresh but ripe (sweetish) tangerine paired with tender peony..... After that, it only takes a moment, it comes already, the beautiful elegant pink rose!

She is so authentic that I want to bathe in it, just a dream!

The Aoud listed in the fragrance pyramid has been used very reservedly in my opinion, for which I am absolutely grateful... for that the white musk comes out strongly with me, which rounds off the beautiful rose perfectly!

For me a wonderful rose.....
The 2nd bottle is almost at the end ;)

Extreme Roses
Deep Roses could easily be Extreme Roses.

Opens with a huge blast of sour and green roses that remains for about 2 hours.

After that there just a little development in drydown: the oud joins the composition along with the amber.

But they're little players only... the major player here is still the rose.

I also detect a honey note in the late drydown, after 6 hours or more.

There's no medicinal smell which is caracteristic of many Montale scents.

Actually there's not much development in the fragrance phases, that's why it can be called as an unidimensional fragrance, which isnt a problem for me.

Unisex, but towards the feminine side.

Sillage and projection are medium-high and longevity is about 10 hours.

Big Fat Beautiful Roses + a little oud and animalic base
The Montale naysayers tend to maintain that this house simply produces perfumes combinatorially, by rolling together different proportions of a fairly small number of notes. My response: so what? When a perfume is a beautiful as DEEP ROSES, I could care less how it was hit upon.

The key notes--common, it is true, to an amazing number of Montale perfumes--are rose, oud, amber, and musk. The top notes are listed as peony and mandarin, but honestly I do not detect them at all. The roses sweep in so swiftly to take over the show that the ephemeral top notes are simply lost in the shuffle. Not that anyone should care, because the proportions of rose and oud and amber and musk are just right. If we were to create a cloud-type depiction of the note distribution, but using instances rather than word size, it would look something like this:

This little cloud illustrates why DEEP ROSES is designated as a perfume for women. Key word: rose. To me, these seem to be red roses, blood red roses with velvety petals and no stems or thorns, as this composition is not green in the least.

The musk and amber serve as a slightly animalic base, and oud is but an embellishment, like a dash of salt to an otherwise already excellent dish. As simple as it is, DEEP ROSES is nonetheless one of my favorite Montale creations. Now that I've drained two full sample vials, it's going on my wish list!
