A scent and maybe a fragrance, is it a 'perfume'? It's lovely in both cases.
Sampled this on my search for summer fragrances. Before I asked for a sample, I let my boyfriend smell it and I'd never seen him react so positively.
Unfortunately we don't share my love for- and interest in perfumes. (he always says he doesn't care for perfumes because he likes the way I smell whithout any perfume which is why he does not really care about what I'll wear and, though I could take that as a compliment, it sometimes is very frustrating when I want an opinion :-))
Anyhow, I had never thought he would like this scent because he always claims not to like sweet perfumes...When I showed him my surprise concerning his likes for this....eh...well...rather sweet scent, he said that he meant by that 'not liking perfumes that are too overwhelming'. I will never understand how he perceives fragrances, lol :-). Then he continued to explain: " Well there is nothing sharp or edgy about this scent, that's why I like it".
I guess that what he likes are not perfumes, but maybe certain aroma's
Because I love this scent, but I'm not sure I'd call this 'a perfume'.
In my opinion this falls into the category of 'aroma's'. It is a scent for reminiscing and, in this case, reminiscing about summer-vacations and such.
In that perspective I love this!!
It's very 'Tiare' indeed, I don't get too much coconut (thank god) or sunscreen vibes. Nor do I smell anything synthetic like some. It's a scent that is very true to nature.
Sillage and longevity are outstanding which means it is best not to overspray.
So I will use my sample a bit more this week to find out if I like it enough to buy a full bottle or if I will hunt down a lotion that smells of Tiare (Therme had a bodycream in the past that was called 'Lomi Lomi' (can't find it anywhere anymore) and that smelled quite much like this (and had quite good sillage as well!), maybe I should search for that online.

Edit: It's a few hours later and..OMG I really LOVE this! The drydown is so soft and feminine! Still very 'tiare', but acting more like a perfume. I now feel it is a perfume, now that it is more subtle; I also suddenly remember that the Therme Bodycream smelled lovely indeed, but that I got an allergic reaction when using it...

Tropical floral
Growing on bushes along the lanai outside my vacation room were hundreds of white tiare flowers. Tiare is a type of gardenia plant that grows in the Pacific islands, native to Polynesia. Every day I would tiptoe out along the stone path and stick my face into these bushes and in those moments I truly knew heaven.

Montale Intense Tiare was my selection for the third day I spent in Hawaii. My friend balked at how strong and sweet the smell was after I had just put it on, almost like grape juice. "You're going to get chased by insects all day!" she warned. Luckily that never happened even though we spent a large part of the day in a tropical botanical garden.

I'm not sure how much was the perfume and how much was my surrounding environment but all day I was surrounded by the sweet almost honey like scent of tiare, coconut, ylang ylang and jasmine. It was gorgeous, made me think if Thierry Mugler's Alien went on vacation and traded her edgy city slicker garb for a sarong and sunglasses. This was my favorite of the three sample vials I had packed for my trip. Quite lush and elegant. Two thumbs up.

Warm, sweet, tropical scent!
This is a beautiful warm tropical scent. As soon as you spray it on, you get a sweet smelling vintage floral and coconut smell. The coconut here smells a bit like a coconut cream filling cookies or wafers. There's also an oily vanilla smell when first sprayed; could be the coconut or a high concentration of perfume oils in the scent.

After it settles down for a few minutes, the creaminess starts to come through and it smells like a sweet tropical floral conditioner; The creaminess here reminds me of the creaminess of thick conditioners. Over time, it turns into a creamy coconut vanilla floral, in that order. In terms of floral - I don't know exactly what tiare flower smells like, but to me it smells like 50% concentrated rollerball pure jasmine oil and 50% rose and "tiare". It's very well blended, though, and hard to tell apart.

It has a vintage vibe that I'm not sure what element is causing it. So I'm not sure I'd want to wear this scent often to work or anything. Also, it definitely has an exotic, lay-in-the-sun, warm vibe that's hard to describe. So it's an outdoor beach picnic, kind of tropical vacation scent, so I don't know how much use I would personally get out of it.

Performance is about 6-7 hours and sillage is okay at 3 sprays, but I'm sure this scent can travel quite a bit when sprayed liberally. In summary, it's a great scent, but not an everyday scent. Enjoy!

Surf City, Here I Come...
This fragrance took me right back to San Diego, where I lived years ago, at the beach. It starts with a sort of over ripe fruity note, even though it lists Tiare as the top note. I was not very impressed, but decided to give it an all day wearing, as to write a review, it needs time to get the whole fragrance picture.
The next stage, after about an hour), was a plasticky, slightly floral vibe. Then the suntan oil presented itself! This was the scent of the beach, where everyone gathered with their boards to catch some waves. I wouldn't have minded that so much, but that slightly over ripe fruit note kept drifting in and out, and was very off putting. In it's defence, the fragrance does have good longevity, and isn't shy to show it's stuff, but I think for the price, it is definitely not worth the price tag! i was expecting a distinct, and prominent tiare flower, but, instead got coconut and a strange plastic fruit smell. I suppose I have been spoiled by my other lovely florals). This is the second Montale I have tried, and will purchase some other samples, as this house has a wide range of choices. Unfortunately, this wave just wasn't worth catching!
