A Drop In The Olfactory Ocean
I have been keeping an eye on Nazareno Gabrielli 1097 pour Femme for some time, and the last time I visited the shop where every time my mind gets lost, I was eager to try it, and I did it while I was buying the new “I’m not a Good Boy.” I put the paper strip away in my jacket pocket and forgot about it until the next day. To my surprise, when I found the strip by rummaging in my pocket, the scent was still there, inviting, glowing, stunning. I ran to buy it; its cost is meagre. I can’t believe it. Although the fragrance is almost 24yo, it is modern and up to date. I have never smelled the original version of Nazareno Gabrielli pour Femme, so after purchasing the modern formulation, I can only conclude that it must now be very different. Sure, it's not soft, but I see it as a floral with a white dominant, very modern, bright and yes, at times plush. Here gardenia and tuberose are treated and emphasized in all their facets, without being dominant. There is a lot of flowery, a creamy element, some musky undertones, and some woody depth.
Nazareno Gabrielli 1907 pour Femme is a lovely floral and syrupy fragrance with a deep oriental touch. It greets me with a caress of sweet white flowers, the orange blossom idea dominates the gardenia, like cyclamen. There is a smidgen of sour bergamot, but the general overture is not citrusy at all. Instead, it is pleasantly soapy, creamy, and powdery, with a nuance reminiscent of the Nivea cream. Here the fragrance fleshes out the oriental orange blossom idea before the spicy, oily heart overtakes everything. The scent is so soft, airy, light and pleasant for the soul that it transports my mind to the warm breeze of a sunny spring morning. I have the sensation of smelling glassed sugar flowers.
After a while, the initial pleasure fades, letting sweet ylang-ylang and divine tuberose emerge. The carnal flower is detectable, I recognize it, but it is neither overwhelming nor annoying. It never screams, although one could think about reading the notes, it’s a soft and warm embrace that surrounds your moves. The heart juxtaposes these two formidable blooms with a symphonic orchestration of other floral notes, a more relaxing rose and a fragrant, almost spicy carnation so that the soul is well balanced and not overly too sweet. The intermediate stage lasts a long time before turning into something different.
When Nazareno Gabrielli pour Femme fades, a more woody and resinous accord envelops the skin. The balsamic benzoin is soft, warm, mixed with a hint of drier cedar, a touch on gourmand vanilla, inedible, not buttery, but more floral, powdery with the support of the benzoin, a sliver earthy and animal thanks to the addition of vetiver and musk. The dry-down is all too warm, which transforms the initial spring scent into a more autumnal fragrance.
With warm musk and balsamic vanilla notes outlining the base, it’s perfect to wear during cold months, fall and spring are the best seasons, to a formal date, to a romantic one, from a happy hour with friends to date. Massive performance, the staying power is excellent over a day on my skin. Sillage is fantastic but not overwhelming. Here in Italy, you can find it in drugstores and quite a few supermarkets for about 15 euro, all well spent. In my final opinion, it is superior to many other more expensive ones, that are not even half as beautiful and well done.
