Quite Interesting Evolution
Today I’ve given this one a very solid wearing after recently adding this to my collection. I was curious at how my nose would react given the depth and breadth of florals.
I’m about 8 hours into the wear and it’s still quite detectable. I must say, of a collection of 330 or so fragrances, this one strikes me as one that evolves above most others as I’ve experienced them.
At first spray, I will warn those that are not open too much in the way of florals, they are very strongly present. For the first couple of hours, to my nose, this was quite tuberose dominant. I can’t say I’m that much of a fan of tuberose, though I’ve warmed up to it somewhat after experiencing it in some Cécile Zarokian creations - namely New Oud by Hayari, Cabaret Nocterne by V/siteur, & Tubereuse Manifeste by Evody. For my nose to really appreciate it for wearing myself, it has to meet some je ne sais quoi that I can’t easily express with words, but I know it when I smell it.
I must be honest, at first sniff, I initially thought this may be a bit too feminine leaning for me to want to wear. For the first couple hours it was quite floral, especially Tuberose dominant. I was sort of on the fence about whether this would be a keeper or something I’d relegate as a gift to someone else. After about an hour to two hours in, things really started to balance out with, to my nose, mostly the suede, giving it that beautiful subtle soft leather my nose associates with suede in fragrance. Anyhow, at this stage the in your face floral subsided and seemed to provide a sweet nuance to the suede. After another couple hours, things have settled more and Stryax, Vetiver, Myrrh, and Benzoin seem to be really coming through - not such that I can detect them individually, but as supper to the suede which seems to have become the most dominant aspect as the base has really been revealed.
I’m quite pleasantly surprised and am going to reapply to retrace this olfactive journey before bed, hoping I’ll get right back to the dry down as it’s time to turn po the lights and drift off into a slumber. Where my fist sniffing steps of the journey had me thinking this is something to gift to a female family member, I am now thinking this is a definite keeper. I would definitely suggest testing this one out. I’ve seen and heard some reviews about this being quite sexy, powerful, and opulent, and I tend to agree. I would say that this is the first time I’ve experienced a scent and thought “way on the feminine side” at the outset only to think “way on the masculine side” after a few hours in. I’ve always appreciated fragrances that took my nose on a journey and have also appreciated unisex fragrances, though I don’t recall one that made me think of quite this much of a change in perception in going from feminine leaning to masculine leaning as the wear went along. Quite interesting and happy to have in my collection and to continue getting to know!
Edit: I just reapplied and an interesting thing happened with my nose. Is it floral at the outset - no question, it absolutely is. However, upon reapplication, it didn’t strike me as an overtly “feminine scent profile” this time around. Rather than doing so, the opening this time around struck me as a sexy clean soapy scent. Huh. I’m baffled. Dang, I love when a fragrance keeps my nose on its toes! Definitely a keeper and can’t help but wonder if a third wearing will bring my nose some new place and/or if the drying down into the base process will take my nose to new places this evening. Cheers to a wonderfully fragrant life!
