An Intriguing Scent from Dawn untill Dusk
I've been fascinated by the case that echoes the Moleskine classic notebook, and the flask made of ceramic and all painted with pale tones. The collection consists of five scents, 2 feminine, 2 masculine, and 1 genderless. The elegant design of Notebook Patchouly & Cedar Wood is embodied in its sophisticated tones of sandy beige. A color associated with earth, it is born of a combination of red, yellow and blue, evoking balance and reflection. A perfect color for the highbrow and aromatic fragrance it holds. Bold, aromatic and triumphant, it is the perfect fragrance which accompanies you throughout the day from dawn until nightfall.
To start with, P&C keeps a foresty-woody spell, it's spicier due to patchouli and peppercorn, earthier, and it reminds me of Terre d'Hermès original, which I find reflective and healing. It's more synthetic than TdH, still very enjoyable and clean, would imagine it is great to wear both for office and for outdoors. I don't think this is an uncanny TdH clone, rather I think it smells as if it was inspired by it... they both share that dirty citrus vibe, but TdH is brighter and more mineral, that aspect is missing here. The strong orangey opening is here replaced by a blend of citrus fruits. If you are anything like me, you like TdH and you will like this, but don't expect it to be a replacement for TdH.
Patchouly & Cedar Wood is purportedly built around three main notes, which are firmly detectable: the zestiness from pink grapefruit, the earthiness from patchouli, and the woodiness from cedar wood, which create an accord full of woody and amber tones.
The dominant trend is woody, though it's obviously cedarwood, probably Atlas kind that is smokier, woody and as that typical pencil sharpener vibe. Here you get more woodiness and less mineraliness vibe compared to ThD. Its long-lasting robust aroma pairs perfectly with leather and earthy notes, as in this scent. I must be mistaken, yet I get a hint of rooty vetiver in the composition, which goes together well with the cedar and patchouli.
All the above being said P&Cis a great scent on its own. The few ingredients are nicely blended and it performs way above its price point. The sparkling bergamot and the pink grapefruit opens up luminous offering a spicy citrus accord. Then follows a floral and woody heart, a blend of masculine magnolia blossom that binds well with the rosewood. The drydown is all about woody amber accord full of modern patchouli, golden cedar wood, a touch of amber and a hint of vetiver.
Longevity is above average, however, it goes down to a skin scent sooner than what I would expect, but it last from dawn to nightfall. Instead, the sillage is moderate, which makes the scent suitable for the office. Spring and Autumn are both suitable seasons for showing off the beautifulness of this juice, nonetheless, I prefer wearing it during cool days, which enhance the character of this scent.
As aforementioned, it is not an accurate clone, yet it smells closely akin and captures the essential good vibes of TdH. SELECTIVA is doing things pretty well!
