Here is another blend from O'Driu that is a candidate for much interpretation. There's no note breakdown, which I like, as it leaves room for speculation. It smells like sinful thinking inside a church, maybe reading the gospel. Or perhaps, sinful dreaming...
I can draw a small parallel to another favorite perfume of mine, Absolue pour le Soir, but here, the composition is more finely tuned, and the mainstream notes and accords such as rose, are replaced with odd ones. The smell of sweet resins burning inside a church, the ceremonial olibanum being burned, and the smoke of the thurible permeating the air. There is a strong usage of cumin here suggesting the idea of sin, and an earthbound quality from the note of mushroom. Perhaps, linked to the condition of men, bound to return to the earth. The note of mushroom is particularly strong in the opening but it becomes only a minor player in the later stages of development. Finally, the smell of paper pressed against dry wood. Perhaps the pages of the gospel. This paper accord becomes quite vivid after a while and it always feels juxtaposed to this dry, sharp wood smell. It is a polarizing perfume, not to me, as I find it incredibly refined and elegant, but to the people around me. And I would blame the cumin note for that, and perhaps the paper-like accord. Overall, a unique and complex scent, leaving room for interpretation. Frankincense, sweet resins, mushroom, paper, and dry woods. I do believe it has a religious connotation, as both the scent and the book with the same name suggest. A powerful blend showcasing a fine hand and a profound idea.
