Henry Miller's road without tar
While researching the name of the fragrance, I came across Henry Miller. A guy who got around a lot, known in the New Age movement, interested in Nietzsche, oriented his way of life to Buddha and Lao Tzu, wrote, painted and also played the piano. One of his literary works is called Tropic of Capricorn and contained partly autobiographical passages. I just ordered it because the man knew how to live, was married five times, loved life, food and sex. All things people are driven by and talk about.........and he's a Capricorn.

He might not have worn the scent, but I think he would have taken a sniff because he was curious. Because he loved to live, was a pleasure seeker and open to all things new. Tropic of Capricorn is not for everyone, for some hard to find beautiful, if they capitulate at the start of the fragrance, because they say uh, the irgdenwie smells like poop, is totally musty, who wants to smell like that or wear something.........
TOC starts out sweet and fecal. Hyrax is the excrement of the klipschliefer or klipdachse (Procavia capensis) - thanks Regina! I guess that's where that fecal note at the beginning comes from. The fruit along with foul water from flowers does the rest and you need a bit of patience until the full beauty of the scent unfolds. Because eventually you're standing in a sea of blooming tuberose, narcotic, engaging and very sexy. You want to fall over the one that smells so damn seductive.

Hooked by dear Peter with Top Shelf, via a few drops of Acaciosa in a swap pack, Black Tar, Bouquet de Palmyre, The Decay of the Angel, I have now landed in the Tropic of Capricorn given to me by dear Regina. An exciting journey that has demanded a lot from the nose and has expanded my olfactory horizons again.

Salted tuberose with honey
It's probably going to surprise a lot of people what I'm going to say I think, but I do it without having read any of the notes:
To me it smells like amber and musky tuberose, with a touch of sea saltiness and I'd say a hint of Hiram Green / Francesca Bianchi-style honey.
In case of having to say anithing about fruits, I only would say a creamy mango.
At times it reminds me of some of the gothic natural extracts of Anna Zworykina of which I am a great admirer, but of course without the darkness of her creations de ella, nor the greenery of the Russian forest of hers.

Tuberose in tart
The Tropic of Capricorn, or the southern Tropic of Capricorn, is an interesting name for a perfume. The countries that lie either completely within the Tropic of Capricorn or partially within it are logically more southern. African countries are among them, as well as Australia and New Zealand, and parts of South America. Without looking at the notes, I find the naming to be appropriate because whenever I think of this fragrance, I actually think of tropical desserts that also come from South America or similar. Could also come from South America or the like. Of course, I have looked at the contents afterwards, not all of them, but when I read New Caledonian sandalwood, I realize that the selection was made with sense and reason. As a reminder: New Caledonia is located near Australia.

Now I have little idea how individual flowers smell in combination, this is not my specialty. I perceive the gaudy and full-bodied tuberose, which for me is a little inhibited and therefore more tolerable. It seems to me as if frangipani is pushing itself into the foreground, which is considered to be intense, fruity and creamy. A little bit I have to think of peach fruit milk. This lifts the beguiling scent of tuberose to another level, for me a bit more wearable for men. The mango also plays a role here
Now animalism really resonates with what you don't want to get directly. A wild, animal note lies beneath the blossoms. Hyraceum, often used as a substitute for musk, triggers this olfactorically. Florally it goes more in the direction of jasmine, it becomes more solid. Benzoin, I like Sumatra benzoin, adds a certain powdery note without becoming feminine. The jasmine seems more herbaceous than sweet. Nevertheless, Tropic of Capricorn can't do without it completely, the vanilla mixes in, quite sensual and beguiling but not in the leading role. She stays until the end.

The further the time progresses the more clearly the animal kingdom becomes without however becoming dominant. Great job! Tamed animal if one after not too much animal is quasi.
In the further course the contents alternate again and again, sometimes the tuberose is on top, sometimes other components but always breathed on by the Hyraceum. Really successful, the use of vanilla also contributes to this. I can't make out the sandalwood separately, it will probably be absorbed by the tuberose.

I don't know much about fragrances like this but I almost suspect that this is a really wearable fragrance for men who don't usually appreciate floral scents, as it is rather tart and fruity. The ingredients may be more exotic, but they are well balanced. For a few seconds I feel reminded of Douleur but more in the basic tenor than in the fragrance itself.

Animalic tropic
Tropic of capricorn is a tropical and animalic perfume by olympic orchids. The smell is very sweet and nice. The opening is very intense with a very harsh animalic note but when It fades out It gets a very creamy and fruity vibe. This perfume makes me think of some of Francesca bianchi's perfumes. The most noticeable notes are the animalics, the tropical fruits, the gray amber and the osmanthus. Over all during the dry down i can get a very strong osmanthus scent! This perfume is perfect yo wear during the day on winter or spring, but i can image Simeone wearing It with summer clothes, sat on a terrace near tthe beach having a mojito at evening un summer. The performance is good with long lasting power and strong projection at beggining and after a while becoming like a second skin, noticeable at shot distance but always noticeable. This has been a very good discovering for me!

I've read a lot of pearl-clutching reviews bemoaning how skanky this is. The skank is manageable! It is fruity, musky, floral, a bit salty.
