Beautiful comforting scent of sweet soft woods
This scent smells like the wood workshops of my childhood. It smells of sawdust, dust of metal and the dust of men. There is also something very reminiscent of pencils, the old yellow and black HB ones one might find in a classroom (British perspective). There is a enveloping softness in the scent, but because of the association I have of my old victorian primary school building, it gives me chills. That school was always cold, no matter the time of year. This scent is an experience, a flashback to blue jumpers, school fields and wooden climbing frames, of going to wood workshops after school, of wooden floors and assembly halls. Those wooden school benches, and the woods on the grounds where we would play hide and seek, and forage in the green for berries.
There are no berries here. There is a rich smooth woodiness, the the orris accord and the sandalwood enhance. The patchouli in the base is there, it doesn't overpower but blends seamlessly in, the materials in this are fantastically blended. It's difficult to pull out the individual notes, but I can sense the creaminess of the sandalwood, the softness of that wood with the cashmeran adding a very soft musky animal facet. The only downside, and it pains me to say this, is the longevity. On my skin this barely lasts for 2 hours. For £105 I would expect better, but maybe my sample (from the brand) was a little off or something happened to it. I plan to visit the store when I'm next in London to further my investigations; but sadly, despite the beauty in this composition it is probably the 2nd worst of the house. That should tell you something about the skill of the perfumer (Labbé) and the collection at Ostens.
