It all started in the 70s in Greece, in Santorini to be exact. Franzesca Brice was in the souvenir business at the time and had developed "Flowers of Greece" - cream perfumes in little ceramic jars that she sold to tourists. However, she left Greece in 1993 to return to New Zealand. Since then, she has been running "The Mermaid Guesthouse for Women" there.
Kate Jason Smith, actually an actress, designer, producer and quite well-known in New Zealand, purchased one of Franzesca Brice's cream perfume jars during a visit to Santorini in 1983. Although she tried to preserve this exquisite perfume as long as she could, once everything ran out. She kept the jar as a souvenir.
As luck would have it, the two women met 10 years later and in conversation Kate found out that Franzesca was the one who had created her then much-loved perfume. Naturally, she convinced Franzesca to develop cream perfumes again for the Pacific Rim.
Sustainability is very important to Franzesca and Kate and only natural, botanical raw materials are used in the fragrances. Animal testing is an absolute no-no for both of them. No mineral or artificial additives are used either.
By 2002, the concept had matured and the Original Range from Pacific Perfumes was born. Since then, the fragrances have been offered in small wooden containers made from sustainably produced beech wood. For every beech tree felled, a new one is planted. Pacific Perfumes sources raw materials exclusively from local farms and distilleries that operate sustainably. All packaging is recyclable.
The range also includes various scented natural plant soaps.
