Come into my shady arms...
We are many, very many. Sisters. Tree nymphs. We are connected to the tree we live with. We can change our appearance depending on the appearance of our tree. Birch nymphs, for example, have bright green hair and hazel nymphs have dark brown eyes. We dryads are responsible for the oaks and live with them. We are very old, much older than you humans can imagine. When you see us, which is not so often, we have a beautiful, agile, human form for you. But we can also merge completely with our tree, and then you don't see us.
But we are always aware of you when you are between us. Normally we are loving and would like to lure you into our arms, and if you wish, you can make contact with us. But if you do something to our trees, which unfortunately happens more and more often, we can become really angry avengers. So you'd better cooperate...
-----
Why don't you take a walk under me and feel my space? I'll give you shade when it's hot. Perhaps you can inhale the scent of my mossy branches, the wood scent that springs from my jagged bark in the sun, and my bitter leaves. When they fall down, they smell different again when they are trampled on or simply slowly fade away in the undergrowth, where many small animals also live. Where the sun shines through my canopy, clary sage and other herbs bloom and smell. Again and again, individual bright flowers light up the greenery. Sometimes two of you come and lie down in my shade on the beautiful green grass and have fun together. Then it smells of your sweat and lust. It is easy here to forget your human time and immerse yourself completely in my space and my time... Some of us have also fallen in love with one of you and met you here in human form to make love. It is then hard for us to watch you age while we remain... Once I have grown to love you, I will forever shadow you wherever you go. But perhaps you will never want to return... I can tell you so much more... Come... Stay...
-----
This is a fragrance that lives and breathes, and has done so for a very, very long time, as it feels to me. A wonderful composition. There is a tart oakmoss note right from the start, beautifully green galbanum, dark resins and woods, slightly musty earth, bright delicate flowers light up here and there in the thicket (but they never become sweet), costus, castoreum and civet contribute animalic notes here and there. Smoky and slightly sweet resins become perceptible and then recede again. Everything lives and blooms and breathes and lures and loves and dies and begins anew...

Thanks to @Jeob for this beautiful old scented soul!

I'd be Little Red Riding Hood,
...I would seriously consider immersing myself in this dark abundance alone. Even at the risk of grandmother having to do without cake and wine. (Surely she has some supplies in her cottage.)
Or else: I would immediately secure the wolf as a kind of bodyguard - a new dream team: Little Red Riding Hood and Lupo!
That might do it!

"Dryad" is dark - dark and mysteriously tempting!
Old mossy oaks exude their typical fragrance from their foliage: astringent and not only a little reminiscent of decay. The huge trunks with the cracked bark additionally spread a strong wood aroma.
Vetiver's earthy character conveys even more depth; despite the oaks dominating everything, the impression of dense undergrowth emerges, enclosing this scent path. Along with moist leaves that rustle under each step.
There is certainly more living under this one than just a hedgehog family seeking shelter.
(But do we really want to know more?)
Already at the beginning of the acquaintance with "Dryad" a spice outweighs, which is certainly not everyone's thing.
The aromatic herbs thyme, tarragon and clary sage alone contribute a fragrant power.
The bright, fruity freshness of both citrus fruits and the sweetness of the apricot are then needed to make friends with the previous fragrance composition.
Even star anise brings a little brightness (even if it scratches me a little again), before - after a large fragrant field of flowering lavender, framed by tobacco plants with already somewhat dried leaves - a hidden flower garden appears.
After this somewhat strict entrée I greet him with double joy!
There they are gathered, these purely female flowers: rose geranium (here harmonizing well with the kitchen herbs and dampening their strong spiciness a little).
An amazing abundance of roses and iris - both floral ladies proud, pampered by the sun and very fragrant intense.
The delicate, delicate magic of orange blossom adds warmth and cordiality to this secret scent: this scent is actually always welcome - especially here! This walk through the woods is good for a little tenderness!
A familiar glow now also appears on the scent horizon: Ylang-Ylang enters the stage! Bright lights, little life beings alike, now flickering through the creation - how I love this fragrance!
This light then leads into a true labyrinth of smoky resins: first I meet Labdanum of course - well, we've known each other for several years. That's probably why this first "Aha moment"!
But benzoin, galbanum and the vanilla-like sweetness of Styrax resin also greet intimately, along with so much that I don't see in detail.

There is a lot of liveliness in "Dryad": a rustling of the leaves, a rustling of the dry leaves and many small animals - animal addition to the dark magic. The clear knowledge: one being dies - another finds food! Here a circle closes!
And a whisper: a mysterious whisper, for which the dryads, the forest nymphs are probably responsible.
These "nymphs of the oaks" from Greek mythology lure here clearly.
Her peculiarly attractive beauty, always surrounded by light fog, seduces: the right way should be left and so the immersion into a world full of promises and secrets should be made easy.
The temptation to indulge in "Dryad", to get lost in this scent, too, is great!

It needs a lot of space, unfolds more and more over time (reminds me a little of a yeast dumpling that rises wonderfully under the warmth!), becomes more mysterious: finally a dark spicy chypre appears! An impressive grand finale!
Sure not everybody's darling, but still very, very interesting!

With "Dryad" I have not regretted making a detour deep into its magical forest, at the border between reality and dream, truth and lie, light and darkness.
This fragrance appeals to me clearly, even if I fear it a little at the same time.
Maybe I should get myself a faithful companion before I give myself to "Dryad" again?
Because I doubt that the dryads do not throw their nets at women, too!
They seem pretty possessive to me - just like this scent!

Galbanum incantations
There are fewer and fewer current fragrances that I consider beautiful and valuable and therefore want to buy. The Papillon Artisan Perfumes brand is one of them, and to my great surprise I can confirm this even more after receiving a sample of Dryad.
The opening is green, moist and fresh, with all the nuances of galbanum coming through perfectly.
After a few minutes, the galbanum exudes its "toasty", slightly woody and resinous smoke.
The green aspects of the initial phase of the fragrance are enhanced by notes of thyme and sage.
Tarragon (a note I particularly love) adds a slight fermentation to the fragrance, a complex strength.
I could see how the tarragon note is present in all the chypre fragrances I love the most.
The initial phase has strong similarities with Chanel N 19 (galbanum) and Trussardi Action donna.
Then the galbanum softens its dominant aspects and a warm, powdery iris note comes into play. Obviously, iris is the best note to associate with galbanum!
Orange blossom and narcissus give the perfume a more floral aspect and make it "softer".
After the first hour, all the floral aspects of the fragrance are overpowered by a very strong and predominant resinous base.
Oakmoss, storace and benzoin make the fragrance warm, ambery, enveloping and slightly powdery.
The fragrance as a whole shows a great development: green at the beginning, floral after a few hours, resinous and ambery at the end.
The quality of all the notes is clearly very high and the raw materials used are predominantly natural, which are no longer found in today's perfumery.
Dryad, along with many of the brand's other fragrances, adds great value to this artisanal brand that still produces such rare fragrances with a vintage spirit.

Do not disturb
This is "do not disturb" material. The kind of perfume to wear at home on a quiet evening. It demands attention from the wearer and takes him/her on an adventure. A long-lasting trip with strong vivid images and a constantly changing plot; a novel to fully indulge in and to read over and over again.

Be prepared for a big foggy swamp full of green and brown notes. And that's just the opening. Then there is a much brighter floral phase, with a somewhat dry and dusty feel to it. Eventually, things start to warm up as tobacco, balsams and musks appear, besides the lovely moss that is present from beginning to end.

This may be a perfectly wearable perfume, but the trail it leaves is pretty common green. From a distance, I get mostly narcissus and galbanum. Faint wafts of this perfume are not going to mesmerize anyone. But up close it is an absolute mind boggler.

Resurrecting The Green Chypre...
Dryad opens with a slightly sweet, fruity floral orange blossom and apricot focal tandem with underlying smooth orange fruit support before transitioning to its heart. As the composition enters its early heart woody green cedrat melds into the orange lingering from the open, as hay-like herbal deertongue joins green spicy, woody galbanum and mild woody vetiver in support. During the late dry-down the composition completely shifts to a mossy (likely oakmoss and tree moss derived) green late dry-down with little remaining of the previous notes through the finish. Projection is average and longevity outstanding at well over 15 hours on skin.

Dryad smells fantastic. As soon as one applies the perfume on skin a gorgeous orange blossom emerges that quickly morphs into an equally appealing vetiver and galbanum enhanced spicy-woody heart. Quite frankly, this profile I expected to continue through the late dry-down, but the perfume rather surprisingly shifts gears completely, morphing into an equally appealing but all together different mossy-green focal late dry-down that lingers for hours and hours. The mossy-green dry-down definitely contains some oakmoss within, but its smooth facet and seemingly endless duration leads this writer to believe the oakmoss is heavily infused by tree moss. Another possibility is this is a tremendous implementation of the IFRA compliant low atranol oakmoss that has proved unimpressive in so many other compositions. However the perfumer achieved the highly appealing mossy-green base, it is it be commended. The bottom line is the $186 per 50ml bottle Dryad is a fine example of a modern day green chypre that gets just about everything right, earning it an "excellent" 4 stars out of 5 rating, and a strong recommendation to all.

Such an apt name, this conjures up nymphs in the forest dancing on a plush green moss bed. Floral, bitter, resinous and so complex.

A nice green chypre that is reminiscent of some classic old school frags. Good but not for that price.
