"My ass!" - bottled
My father never cursed. No way. He doesn't even use swear words, not even strong language. And yet I was there, when my father - overwhelmed by the physical sensation of a fairground roller coaster loop he had just passed through, which he had never heard of before - was enkept by a deeply disturbed "my face!
I was impressed by this "my face" to an extent that is hardly comprehensible today. Now my language, the spoken one at any rate, is no longer as presentable as it was in my years of language education. I use S* and F* and all their nasty siblings - perhaps regrettably - modernly frequently. "My face", but I reserved it. For the really impressive moments.
And so a deeply disturbed "my face" escaped me at the first nose pull of Lehmann's jasmine, because this jasmine starts extremely authentically - that is: overwhelming, dangerous for headaches, numbing and with a decided popo note. Just as jasmine smells on a summer night, overripe, oggy-sweet and hugely expansive, so Lehmann's smells jasmine and boy, oh, boy, that's not easy.
This top note, it's lonely. An olfactory neutron bomb: The houses are still standing, but there is nothing left to do within a larger radius. The Sillage: Close to the poison gas.
And she's persevering, too. How often do I wish a beautiful top note would stay - please - longer. Here I wish it would go - please, please, please - right now.
Of course she does at some point, and - who would have thought that? - all of a sudden jasmine becomes beautiful, cuddly, delicately sweet in the way that classic fragrances can be. I also smell carnation seasoning and the crystalline sharpness of the lily. Mrs Toni also lists cinnamon, bitter tea and magnolia. Do I smell that? I don't know, I don't know, I don't know, I don't know. What I know: This is one of the most voluminous and opulent fragrances I have, densely packed and oily. There are - wonderful - scents, which troll around on the skin, just don't want to belong to me. This one connects to me, becomes one, becomes your-skin-but-better. For hours, with unheard-of stamina.
The base: Very soft, very sensual, beeswax sweet - it could be benzoin -, with animal tones. I know this base from some other Lehman scents, carnation ends like this - but also my big favorite Vamos.
How do you rate a fragrance like that? Heart note 9, top note 5? Results in what? Can you blame a Soliflor if it smells authentic?
My first rating was 7.5. I find that unfair now. The fragrance is basically fantastic, a blast. Great cinema as it changes from the most authentic jasmine smell imaginable to a sensual, jasmine accentuated miracle of scent.
I'm going to give him a 9. And as for the top note, you've been warned.
