in the open countryside
One of the scents that blow over from my childhood is still the scent of fresh laundry dried in the air and in the sun.
Laundry that dances in the wind and over which the iron floats with ease more than it glides.

This scent, which even stays in the closet for some time, is called childhood - childhood summer!
At the big fruit trees, stretched between strong poles, were the clotheslines of my grandmother.
Especially during the blossoming of the fruit tree, the delicate scent of the awakening life, so long missed, blew to the laundry; from the almost always overgrown meadow a strong aroma of weeds and meadow flowers emerged, often crushed by bare feet and thus particularly intense.

L'Eau à la Folie" doesn't come up with this North German impression: instead, this fragrance composition brings to mind a wide, undulating hilly landscape with large, unspoilt meadows through which a small stream dances merrily, surrounded by light woods with lots of herbaceous undergrowth.
How well would these meadows be suitable for old-fashioned laundry bleaching.

Patricia de Nicolai opens this entertaining summer fragrance with a traditional fruity freshness.
Related to the Guerlain dynasty on her mother's side, perfume is an instant favourite for her, like a problem child.
Her long experience also taught her: "A perfume that everyone likes is uninteresting."
L'Eau à la Folie" is not uninteresting at all: the light-footed liveliness of lime, mandarin, mango and astonishingly peach peel immediately makes you smile. (The advertisement would now say: "There comes joy!")
It is pleasing that Mrs. de Nicolai does without the bergamot, which is already "beloved"; thank you, because she would only dampen this lightness of being (this is my feeling).
A generous dose of jasmine - now the Zei, the magnificent white flowers with their five petals framing the golden-yellow face, begins again - stops the impression of a "sportsman's or unisex scent" that may first appear.
This sensual feminine blossom lends esprit, already brings a thought of refinement into play.
Juniper berry, dark and spicy, plays with cardamom and pink pepper in a fragrant league; these somewhat strong companions skilfully caress the "fine lady" Jasmin.
With the fruit aromas of the Entrées, my senses already signal now: summer, joy, lightness and perhaps a bit more than fun, "a little flirtation"?
Musk, not too scarce, but still not breaking the light summery scent frame, adds to this impression the woody spice of cedar and beaver geil.
"L'Eau à la Folie" turns from a pigtail-wearing girl jumping barefoot and with a waving skirt through the meadows and picking flowers into a woman.
A woman with charm and a sensual-happy charisma. She also walks laughing through the grass - sandals in her hand, danced by the open hair and the wide skirt of her summer dress.
Her happy laughter is reminiscent of bells ringing: this scented female makes you happy!

"L'Eau à la Folie" is clear to my enthusiasm and at first even a little bit "biting": maybe it is the pink pepper that hits my allergy-plagued nose.
But that happens fast: this fragrance becomes beautiful, really beautiful!
A bright, warm day under a blue summer sky with cheerfully dancing sheep clouds, a large sundae in a café garden or a sophisticated cocktail at the proverbial "Blue Hour" - all this can be "L'Eau à la Folie".
The beauty lies in the eye of the beholder!
Let us look at this enchanting summer fragrance simply with the gaze of a lover: we see a shimmering, graceful fragrance creature that dances through the day light-footedly and a little exuberantly. But we also notice that this "summer woman" doesn't lack depth; the basic scents already stand for them.

Already years ago I fell in love with this lively fragrance creature; the first sample came in a fragrance package from Greece: as such a "stowaway" that I didn't even see it between all the packaging. That would have been a shame!
Since then we have both been dancing through a cheerful summer day, "L'Eau à la Folie" accompanies us for a few hours: radiant, smiling, babbling - simply spreading a good mood.
Summery light and yet not frivolous, fruity and a little tempting - these feelings are sealed in the classically elegant bottle: Let them breathe and they will rejoice with joy!

Sweet, spicy eau
It's still not the season for this kind of perfume (it has been snowing today), but I defied the climate and decided to give this a spin after a long while...

I got my sample from LuckyScent, and decanters are pretty much the only way to go for samples it seems since PdN do not have a sampling program of their own. That’s the kind of thing that just makes me sad with smaller, less known brands and houses, because while most people in Western countries can get a sniff of Shalimar or any one of the latest designer frags in pretty much any department store this side of the Ural, the niche houses need other ways to make their products known. Having a sampling program is one of the more efficient ones.

Anyway. What is NOT saddening is the scent itself. In l’Eau à la Folie, the citric top notes give off a more green and bright rather than citric impression, and before the perfume has really had time to open up I did wonder if it’s yet another citrusy-herbal take on the cologne structure. As the topmost top notes dissipate, it becomes apparent that it is not. The perfume takes on a fuller, more aromatic and herbal character and sweetens up a little with slightly honeyed (but not cloying!) touch while retaining some of its opening tartness. It is pretty linear from that on, and snuggles closer to the skin as time goes by (it was pretty much gone from my skin after 6 hours), but it is still a worthwhile perfume.

I am not sure if this is full-bottle worthy for me at this time, but it is one of the more enjoyable new perfumes I’ve tried recently and it's surprising how the fruity, berry notes come together and give off a more aromatic and herbal air rather than fruit and berry. Do put it on your to try list! It is absolutely delightful and has undone some of the trauma I’ve suffered through sniffing too many so-called eaux that resemble bug spray more than any living thing. If I tried assigning gender to this one, I’d fail miserably. So yeah. Try it!

Gently effervescent lime and tangy, unsweetened mango skin. Fusty animalics over creamy jasmine are the drydown's highlight.
