Interesting Facts
Although British fashion designer Paul Brierley Smith may not be familiar to many people outside the fashion world, his creations are known and cherished around the globe.

Born in 1946 in Nottingham, UK, he aspired to become a professional racing cyclist, but serious injuries following an accident prevented him from pursuing his plan. He used his father's connections and was employed in a textile company, then in a fashion boutique, and finally as a fabric buyer. Thus he gained great experience and was able to open his first own boutique at the age of 24, initially selling creations by other designers.

His girlfriend, also from the fashion industry, provided him with contacts and encouraged him to create his fashion, and so he did. With his first men's collection in 1976, the brand "Paul Smith" was finally born. A few boutiques followed, and just a few years later, the label was a force to be reckoned within the world of exquisite men's fashion. Further expansions such as women's fashion from 1993 onwards also helped the brand gain international exposure. In the meantime, the "Paul Smith" variety also includes fragrances, watches, furniture, and accessories in addition to women's and men's fashion.

The most famous creations of Paul Smith are the two collections "Stripes" and "Bespoke Stripe" from 2003. The patterns consisting of 14 colored stripes were so successful that they kept appearing on several occasions.

Paul Brierley Smith has been honored several times for his achievements. He was inducted into the "Royal Designers of Industry" (RDI) as well as the "Order of the British Empire (CBE) and knighted.
