Sohan or give him some time
I came across this fragrance by chance and have me immediately once a sample ersoukt. Thanks to Domo88 at this point.

What can I say, the first spray, a quick sniff, yes, that is really uncompromising and makes no "prisoners".

The fragrance starts strong with rose and saffron and at first moment I thought I can't stand this for half an hour. But then the fragrance becomes softer, more benign and also a little sweeter but the basic direction remains, oud and sandalwood come in and I start to like the Sohan. This woody, this variety are fun and it never gets boring.

It won't and can't be everyone's darling, but it is very multi-faceted and interesting. You just have to give him the time to unfold its full potential.

The most potent stallion in my stable
When I wear this device, everything is different. It's like having a yellow beacon strapped on.

i certainly lack the ability to prose as an engineer therefore:

Rose, oud and sweat... but that kind of sweat that can cut.
is for me so far the best fragrance I own.

Thank you Penhaligon's

Pfui Deifel!
As they say in Bavaria I also thought so when I read the ingredients, first with rose and oud scent you could hunt me anyway but then still saffron. That could already be nothing.
But my first impression was uhja instead of pfui deifel .
Smoky as if I was sitting by the fire.
A very fine sweet one that only calls in from time to time
Tender herbaceous and finally round and soft .
Reminds me a little bit of by the Fireplace from MM (which I don't like at all).
However, this scent is super interesting and spectacular Successful Penhaligon fragrance.
Hats off to the British

The prelude cheeky - The heart deep and warm
A summer evening, it is already dark, and the oppressively warm air of the past day still stands in the canyons of the houses of this great city, as if it were too hot to work even for the makers of the wind today. After an afternoon in the open-air swimming pool, you go with your friends to a party in the backyard of some old building flats, where in the golden light of naked light bulbs about 200 people dance, talk, make friends. The mood is relaxed, potato salad is next to baklava at the buffet, and some jerk actually came in a suit. The music is harmless 80s stuff, but the alcohol served is expensive. You are grooving with your friends on the dance floor, something hits you in the head from behind, it's a cherry lollipop. Surprised and a little indignant you turn around - there stands the suit, boyishly he grins at you. He looks good. You get into conversation and you realize that there is more to this lollipop-throwing chav is than you suspect at first glance. An old soul, widely travelled and multi-faceted, warm, sometimes playful, sometimes serious, and always interesting. It will not be your last evening together
The fragrance briefly demands a leap of faith, but then rewards it with warmth and facets. The rosebud in particular reminds me briefly of the small cherry lollipops from the kiosk, before it fades away and an orchestra of oily, smoky-woody notes comes to the fore. All in all powerful and playful, never heavy, never sparkling. A cherry lollipop in a wood-paneled lounge.

Halfetis unplaned half brother Sohan
What is a fixed biological law for us humans, namely that twins have the same parents, is rather rare in the genus of perfumes. In the house of Penhaligon's, however, it almost happened. Seen from a distance, Sohan seems to be a twin brother of Halfeti. A first indication that they are not is provided by the names: "Halfeti" is located in Turkey, "Sohan" in India.
Their greatest similarity: Both have the rose in their hearts and are surrounded by spices, resins and woods, both combine this dark rose with the oud (like infinitely many other fragrances). On the very first nose, even the unfolding of the rose is similar, but then it is already over with the similarities. While "Halfeti" makes this rose shine filigree with a multitude of blossoms and spices in a dark and dazzling manner, skilfully embeds it in an equally large variety of woods and resins in combination with vanilla, tonka and patchouli and the overall structure seems to pulsate, "Sohan" is rather a simple knitted, somewhat unplaned contemporary.
He rushes in with the spicy rose to the door, covered it on the way with harsh labdanum, soaked it in oud and sprinkled it with saffron, which for me smells strongly of cinnamon. Vetiver and pepper sharpen the contours of the rose here, the sandalwood initially remains in the background. So for the first few hours a relatively static impression of a juicy plum spiced with pepper and cinnamon remains the defining theme, dark, purple, somewhat angular, which has its charm, although "Sohans" Rose doesn't really want to bloom, but rather floats like a plum in an oud. Towards the end of the approximately eight to nine hours shelf life, the sandalwood pushes a little more forward, the Sillage, which at the beginning is just in the moderate range, becomes very close after about three to four hours. "Halfeti" lasts longer, also the course of "Halfeti" is much more exciting, iridescent and balanced.
They are both Androgyn, but my wife finds "Halfeti" much more sensual, and she must know.

I'm not impressed with Sohan
Penhaligon's creation of 2017 is uncompromising in that, despite countless similarly structured fragrances, it also relies on the popular combination of oud, rose and saffron. Of course, one could also think that good things that have just proved their worth are connected here. I can well imagine how friends of the genre nod their heads here and find The Uncompromising Sohan solid. But the wow effect is off.

What we have here is a fruity, lush rose that initially brags over the medicinal oud - an effect that saffron often enhances - and is increasingly supported by a certain sweetness. On paper I had strange associations, like cough syrup, but also some cherry. On the skin, on the other hand, the animal and slightly earthy side of the oud unfolds even more strongly. This makes me feel a little reminded of how honey is embedded in Tiziana Terenzis Gold Rose Oudh, for example, and creates an unpleasant, dirty, dull aura (for me). There are certainly some fans of such chords in perfumes, but they make me feel like I have to wash myself.

It's harder for me to filter out the other components of the scent, because it's quite dense and quite dark, because the oud is joined by quite dry woods - in the blind test I would have rather typed on cedar. Consequently, Sohan doesn't seem really warm and cuddly, but he can't impress me either, because I already know something like that. In the beginning I felt reminded of the Calligraphy Rose of Aramis, which was already tested (some time ago) and found to be extremely unbalanced, but the Penhaligon develops more in a masculine direction.

What's the smell doing wrong? A rose is the diva among the flowers - she must be able to shine, must not drown in a sweet syrup or be flattened by a stack of wood. Ex Idolos Thirty Three.
shows how this can succeed in a similar context
What would have been an alternative? Do without the rose and contribute more warmth for a better balance, for example with an amber chord.

In the end, every judgement remains a question of personal taste and therefore I think that one should have a slight preference for animal facets and perhaps the luck that the rose still shines on one's own skin.

The exotic guest at Lord George's house
And again a figure, a character in the family saga Penhaligon´s. I like every character and every scent until now, and I can wear them all, depending on mood and occasion. Maybe I should have changed subjects and gone into acting. Sohan's my favorite. He brings a completely different note to the English aristocracy. He clearly set out from the Orient, saw many things, travelled far and wide, washed all waters and turned his life to good, by his own achievement. He can adapt, but will always bring a touch of exoticism. The character is ingeniously translated with rose, saffron and oud. One notices immediately at the rose that this is no English, no Bulgarian or otherwise European rose. And she's a rose that a man can wear. A little bit of vetiver stands out here and there, never in the foreground, rather supportive. Sandalwood and oud round off the exotic.
For me, a success through and through. I like to meet him in company, especially when one is surrounded by the typical sweet-synthetic scents. Because then the exote Sohan shows his strength. He knows he had to do a lot to get into society, but now he's there, he's successful and yet - he's different, the exotic with style and the recognition of others.
