Penhaligon's - An obituary of headless, vegetarian scents, tenth strike
Chyping

Posy means translated as bouquet. And there couldn't be a better name for this fragrance, as Victorian Posy embodies the olfactory diminutive. I'm thinking of a little house with flowers in the garden and trees next to it, a little house with a garden above a cliff on a small sea under a shining son Penhaligon's Victorian Posy shows clear parallels to the two years older Ormolu from the same house. Both clear representatives of the chypre genre, Ormolu is already not one of the usual Wumms bombs. Victorian Posy is even more lovely and milder. Although the combination of jasmine and rose with camomile on the typical moss bed is common to both. Victorian Posy, however, implements the theme even more subtly, elegantly and vividly. The wonderful, obligatory citric hesperidic opening certainly plays a role, but probably also the more discreet, elegant appearance and the green tone. Ormolu represents his roots as a chypre of the late seventies more vehemently, makes no secret of it. Victorian Posy, on the other hand, is also very harsh, almost strict, but remains more reserved overall and does not seem so obviously out of date today.

Ladies and Gents, I present to you Victorian Posy aka Chypchen, sister of Ormolu.
Which unfortunately, like his older sister, is already in early retirement.

English Chypre
That in the south of England plants grow like in Cyprus, due to the very mild climate, is probably known by some.
And that in England chypre fragrances are (or were) composed by excellence is something only a few people know. I, too, have therefore been instructed otherwise.
Penhaligon's showed it masterfully at this "Victorian Posy".
But it was anything but masterly to take this great fragrance out of the program or out of production.
Thanks to a dear Parfuma I am now allowed to own a Mini and enjoy its bouquet.
First of all Galbanum, together with Hyazinthe, manage to produce an amazingly intense green violet-like scent, which is only accompanied by slightly fresh citrus.
In the course of wearing, a triad develops between roses, the gentle pile of jasmine and the above-mentioned Veichen intro, which is not only a fragrance entrance,
Carried by his leisurely and pleasant sweetness, sandalwood makes its way to my nose and thus immediately into the "brain stem". "Ancient Seventies Hippie Sandalwood", along with the same patchouli.
Underneath lies a "darker" layer of fragrance, which extends to great depths. "Tintiges" slightly bittersweet oakmoss in duet with tart earthy Vetyver.
And the "full booming" from the green-flowery perfume layers above.
A densely woven "carpet" of aromas.
Everything smells so wonderfully "old-fashioned" that it already seems "modern" to me again.
Some niche brands are struggling to create an "old-fashioned" fragrance.
Some also succeed.
But now a big plea to the house of Penhaligon's: Retrieve the old original formula of "Victorian Posy" again, start the production and don't stop it again.
Friends and fans of an "Old English Chypre" will thank you for it....

Wonderful. Hyacinth/galbanum, bitterer chamomile, moss, & a traditional rose/violet. Created for a museum and owns its anachronistic glory.
