Tonkavanilla with apple brandy
Vanilla fragrances seem to be booming in recent years. I'm just thinking of Vanille Planifolia Extrait 21 by Guerlain, Vanille Leather by bdk, Les Heures Voyageuses - Oud Vanillé by Cartier, Imperiale - Vanille Malika by Chopard, Vanille de Tahiti by Perris Monte Carlo, Vanilla Powder by Matière Première, Oudgasm Vanilla Oud | 36 by Kayali, Infusion de Vanille by Prada and of course Vanilla Sex by Tom Ford, to name just the best known. It's not much different with the olfactory relative Tonka.
A fragrance that has both tonka bean and vanilla in it is absolutely legitimate from Pierre Guillaume. But when I think of rum in the fragrance notes in this constellation, I automatically think of Spiritueuse Double Vanille - one of the most successful vanilla creations ever for me! I also see apple in the line-up, which is also perceptible as such in the fragrance, but the opening is so boozy that I unfortunately think more of apple brandy than anything else.
With rose-colored glasses on my nose, I could also interpret Calvados, but Berentzen Apfel is more accurate for me. Despite the rather pleasant vanilla/tonka bean, I have to deduct some points. A little honey and a hint of benzoin can also be detected and a delicate synthetic net hovers over everything, which is absolutely okay given the brand and the implementation. Unfortunately, there is no pistachio in this creation.
According to Pierre Guillaume, Bodykon is supposed to fuse the words "body" and "conscious" into "body consciousness" and emphasize the curves of the body as an aphrodisiac "skin-tight" shimmering tonka. So much for the official explanation, which sounds quite nice. In fact, Bodykon is a slightly sweet vanilla/tonka fragrance, alternating between creamy and powdery, as is now more common. Especially with rum, each of these creations has to be measured against the ingenious Spiritueuse Double Vanille by Guerlain. And Bodykon is not necessarily convincing, as the apple note is more irritating than stimulating.
Perhaps I am too spoiled by the other reference vanilla fragrances and therefore cannot share the euphoria. However, if you want more tonka or vanilla with perhaps that special something, you could try your luck with this one.
