The magic of bygone times
I oute myself as a lover of nostalgic spas. Enjoy the sympathetically old-fashioned, but cultivated atmosphere, let me be transported into times that are long gone and allow the old ladies to take their furs, which they got many decades ago, for a walk in the Kurpark again in winter. Where else would they go with it... ?
Whether Marienbad, Bad Pyrmont, Baden-Baden or even the small, a little ashamed Bad Wörishofen just around the corner. The elegance of such places is already a bit dusty and the glamour of past rushing celebrations is now only a memory. How did we young girls enjoy being invited by our boss after an annual conference to the casino in Baden-Baden and with a few chips as play money we were able to challenge our luck. There were no one-armed bandits at that time and we watched the dexterity of the croupiers in a fascinating way and admired how they had an eye on what was going on at the tables at all times. We were amazed to learn that the inhabitants of Baden-Baden had no access to the lucky stamp so that they would not ruin themselves. So the nostalgic charm at that time also included a little of the breath of the mysterious, perhaps even forbidden, not least thanks to the one or other Kurschattens.
I am amazed how well Prada captured the atmosphere of such places and especially of this time with "Marienbad". Infinitely soft, powdery and flattering, the fragrance is applied to the skin and pampers the wearer with harmony, silkiness, understated elegance and a noblesse that matches the images I see when I perceive the perfume.
As solid as the pyramid looks, as enveloping and golden are the ingredients after Daniela Andrier has woven them into a precious perfume. The leather as soft as noble fabric, the incense only draws a matt veil over the whole, amber envelops with warmth and tenderness and the vanilla holds back elegantly here. How striking these notes are often used, but here you can see how to deal with oud and amber, for example, without the Middle East taking your breath away. Just wonderful. Marienbad does not have to hide behind more famous scents, e.g. from Guerlain.
A drop of melancholy falls into the cup for me, however, when I look at the bottle. Yes, it's modern, straightforward, clear, beautiful - but it could have adapted a little to the romance of old health resorts, even if the heyday of bathing temples in times of health insurance, rehabilitation, co-payments and budget cuts is a thing of the past. But one will be allowed to dream, after all. It is a pity that the scents from this period are not also subject to monument protection, as are the drinking halls and villas of the health resorts. "Marienbad" brings at least a little of the magic of it into the present.
