Solitude
Scentrack: Fleetwood Mac - Dreams

Great scent, but not perfume. Realistic smell of resins, pine wood, cedar with a little bit of burning incense.
Very dry, semi-dense, rustic, rough and intimate.
The smell of a place with no materialistic civilization rules. The smell of the fireside inside the wooden mountain house in deep dark forest. The smell of the personal catharsis ongoing. The smell of problem solving. The smell of broken dreams and new ideas.

Resinous, spiritual and warm almost oily in consistency, projection is very good and silage a good 12 hours or more.
true frankinsence .

The fickle incense
Frankincense, already for thousands of years the aromatic resin fascinates people. In ancient Egypt, the resin lumps were called sweat of the gods and used, among other things, for mummification (if you could afford it). When a Roman emperor or other important person moved into a city, a bowl of incense was carried before them, a custom that later passed to bishops and other high-ranking church representatives. It is similar with the burning of incense for religious masses, so that although incense has been used in a ritual way for thousands of years by quite a few cultures, today we associate it primarily with Christian rituals.

Why do I tell you this cultural-historical gobbledygook anyway? Well, incense as a fragrance is always a double-edged sword for me. It can smell wonderfully aromatic, warm and sensual, or like the greatest church mustiness. Oriental intoxication or dusty crypt, the spectrum of incense in perfumes is wide.

Let's move on to olibanum (which, by the way, is an older term for incense). When I first sprayed it on, a pleasant smell immediately rose to my nose. A beautiful aromatic incense accompanied by dry herbs and warm woods. I thought back to my student days and student parties in the shared apartments of my somewhat esoteric fellow students. It smelled similar there. The fragrance relaxes, but also reminds me of convivial evenings full of discussions (we were / are humanities students, no party, without extensive discussions )
But while I so reminisce and have already put the fragrance on the watch list for bottlings, I suddenly turn up my nose. At my student party, a bishop has crept in and plop bursts my memory bubble, because the incense in the fragrance has changed and unfortunately not for the better. Instead, he now lets his sacral muff character hang out. So again down from the watch list.

An hour later I sit again on my batik seat cushion, only to find myself some time later on a pew riddled with woodworms and so it goes on for some time blithely. The incense in olibanum has a fickle nature and seems determined to really want to cover the entire above range of expressions.

The smell of woods remembered that fell before I lived.
This is exquisite. This is holy as I learned the word : set apart and yet connected. Strong, multidimensional, transcendent. The frankincense washes you down like a cat tongue, then the sandal and orange blossoms snuggles you up in fur. I tested Olibanum last year in May, in the U.S. North West. It was rainy and sunny by turns and often scents on the skin seem to sleep if I don't warm up a little. This is one of those. I had sampled Battito d'ali from this house, which was lovely but too soft for my need at the time; with isolation I found a leaning toward harder, more bracing scent. At first application it was harsh, astringent, almost like nail polish remover. I like that myself. Sharing my vial with a couple of dude friends, one of whom I inadvertently doused, they also caught that opening abrasive power; the dousee messaged two days later to tell me how much he enjoyed it on his clothes as it mellowed and that it was still going strong, if subdued. My experience is this - it smells natural, medicinal, woody, ever so slightly blossomy; for personal intent but not unfriendly; it sinks into my skin and after about an hour develops (or simplifies) into a tonic of cool, light smoke that carries into a gently retreating veil of gauzy comfort. To say that Olibanum warms up would feel misleading as it always feels rather neutral in spirit to me, like gin being neutral as opposed to tequila feeling hot or vodka cold. As it works more into my skin with work or exercise, however, it does bloom in a dignified, unselfconcious...just rather pure and clean while still human way; I get no sense of artifice or pretense, I wouldn't worry about smelling my own sweat through and around it as I do with some others that I also love. This is different. I very much enjoy that it's a woody incense without spice. It doesn't last forever on me as the Patchuly and Confetto have, though it does linger long in whisps and twinkles. It also is so simple in elements (while complex in effect) that it layers exceptionally well with any other perfume including incense or sandalwood that I've tried, adding a smooth, clean backbone to softer works or an extra sparkle to heavier. I could go on. Personally, once past that initial blast -which, again, I enjoy- it is to my nose what rising smoke is to the eyes that watch it : mesmerizing.

Profumum Roma / Olibanum
Olibanum ... that's right - I position the fragrance among the most beautiful 'friendly incense' and which I do not associate only with church climates.
The fragrance is a beautiful blend of incense-myrrh mixed with orange blossom. A great and unique combination. We also feel resins and sandalwood (a similar note to Santalum). It is a dry and warm fragrance for me - there are no monumental and cold temples in it. Many times I have wondered what reminds me .... apart from the closeness to Olivier Durbano's Rock Crystal and I know what. Well, as a person who played many years ago playing various instruments - reminds me of the smell of a wooden, dusty and incensed organ, and also .... bellows accordion. This association is interesting. The fragrance also attracted many positive attention of people (mostly women). Durability is many hours: 10-12 hours, moderate projection (veeery good because it would probably strangle the owner). For me, a beautiful perfume that may have one drawback for some - it is not changeable, it is not a chameleon.
And now I invite you to a game for two hands - on an old, slightly dusty, wooden piano on which myrrh crystals smolder and around it is warmed by the light of many lit candles. Time to start the show.

Olibanum is myrrh and frankincense. The scent is oily, resinous with a woody drydown, spiced with cumin. Relaxing fragrance for colder days.
