Leather Oud L'eau
Easily the nicest Rancé I have tried so far, an easy win anyway given the quality of their other fragrances. A hypothetical Dior’s “Leather Oud L’Eau”, basically: terribly similar to that at first, the same exact birch-leather uber-dry blend with smoky-fecal nuances, just a bit more shallow and much less deep and rich than the Dior, especially on the drydown. Kind of cheaper too, both in a positive meaning (cost) and negative (quality). The smell is similar at first, but the kind of similarity linking a really good picture of landscape, to the real landscape: you miss the living part. Still, they are clearly tightly connected, so if you’re craving for Leather Oud and you’re willing to settle, just get this and you’ll be fine. For whom doesn’t know the Dior, basically Aigle de la Victoire is a quite simple, almost martial blend mostly based on dry smoky birch wood and leather, kind of oud-ish too, with something herbal and slightly sweet that reminded me of black tea. That’s it: woody, smoky, leathery – the leather accord is really nice here, discreet but solid, kind of synthetic-roasted but it works. That’s it, nearly no evolution, long-lasting power. A must for all fans of dry-dark-smoky scents, gloomy and refined, not a holy grail probably as to me it smells slightly cheap overall, but really decent for the price (and for the line).
