How is such a true masterpiece going so far under the radar? It’s magnificent. I smelled it briefly a little while back, and while I thought it was very, very good, I don’t think I actually realized how good. I’m really not even sure where to begin to describe it. It starts off semi-cologne style but calling this fragrance a mere “cologne” does not do it justice. The citrus opening - which is full citrus, not just the typical bergamot or lemon we often get in a cologne, but it smells like a full orchard. It quickly transitions from the cologne style opening to what smells more like a vintage Eau de Toilette but you can’t decide if it’s one for women or men. It’s literally impossible for me to decide which way it possibly leans but I definitely get a vintage vibe and I’m even getting aldehydes which aren’t mentioned in the notes. It has this mossy green floral vibe and a hay like quality at the same time. As it dries down additional fruity nuances blend in, one being plum. Something Rasei seems to use very well. The fragrance continues to evolve and more woody, resinous and herbal facets start joining in along with a very slight semi gourmand quality. Kolonya changes not with every hour but multiple times each hour, as each layer of this highly complex fragrance is unveiled. Kolonya goes from cologne, to vintage femme floral, to herbal vintage masculine and then on to even modern niche all in one ride. It smells like nothing you’ve ever smelled before and it’s a perfumista’s nirvana because there is so much going on and so many layers, you can’t define it but can’t stop trying to.

This fragrance is a nod to the cologne of yesteryear, particularly what Rasei’s grandfather wore, along with other scent memories from his childhood - the citrus orchards where he spent time with his grandfather as a child, the flower gardens around their house in Cyprus, and even his tobacco scent. Kolonya is splash on for a reason, because everything was back then. It’s part of the nostalgia. Even the wooden box reflects memories of those days gone by.

Rasei also has clearly put his signature twist to this which makes it seem modern at the same time. I think this is one of the best fragrances I’ve smelled, maybe ever. Not only is the scent remarkable but the way it unfolds and is delivered is truly spectacular. It starts off pretty strong, with a bang, but transitions into something more like an aura around you, wafting in and out and it lasts all day, I think this could be a 24 hour-er on the right skin.

Don’t let the splash scare you off if that’s not your thing. Just put this miracle fragrance in a spray bottle it takes a minute and trust me it’s worth it.

playing with tradition
4711 in my memory is a seemingly fresh scent, which in connection with the skin of my grandmother became sourish and somewhat severe.
i didn't like that.
later i use this eau de cologne to clean the violin strings when they were too glued to rosin.
neither one nor the other would have moved me to test "kolonya". but rasei away, whose fragrances the brand continues & manle i love very much, seemed to me a guarantor for a new experience.
and really: what seems like a more noble 4711 in the first spraying becomes multi-layered, fruity and mossy a minute later. like a subtle reminder of "fatih sultan " this new fragrance comes along:
fresh-spicy in the top note, later noble-fruity with elegant spice:
the plum floats on light lavender and is structured by rosemary and coriander.
the base, ambratic-woody, remains quiet and transparent.
like a wafer-thin veil, this fragrance wraps itself around the skin.completely unobtrusive, but persistently fresh and gold-spicy.
in the beginning a typical eau de cologne, "kolonya" develops after only half an hour into a subtle, very close but full-bodied fragrance, which exudes care, quality and sensuality.
