Wuyi Te Tse Remonyi
Everything is a room somewhere. Is this a room? Maybe the walls are made of paper so that what's evoked in here can be projected onto them There are rock needles from the Wuyi mountains, smouldering like chimneys of deep black tea leaves over crackling pine roots, spruce wood fire-sputtering resins, whereupon the aromas float towards the ceiling, with essential clouds to form oils that linger in the smoke for months before falling in sparkling threads onto a tea table made of sandalwood. Here I am sitting on a sandalwood tea table, absorbed in dark fumes of smoke and camphor, dreaming of the river of the Nine Windings of Tiger Balm and wood fire, which sometimes shimmers reddishly of resin and cinnamon, then glows conifer-like greenish in relief on the sandalwood table, here on the dry earth, after a few quiet hours the Te Tse Remonyi is over.

"Lapsang Souchong" is a perfume oil from Tanya Kuznetsova's Ravenscourt Apothecary, which she has been running in London since 2013. In addition to natural perfume oils, which are naturally limited in shelf life (about three to five hours) and sillage (rather arm-length to skin-tight), she also produces other products such as natural soaps. For "Lapsang Souchong" she soaks the traditionally smoked black tea leaves in oil for several months before mixing them with the essential oils of sandalwood and rosewood as well as patchouli and pepper. The result is a smoky-spicy, essential green and balsamic scent that is very natural, cleansing and soothing.
