Another copy of the Prada? Not quite...
Rirana fragrance number 3 in the test list, which is quite extensive. It will be the first time that I have evaluated the fragrances of a complete brand and had them under my nose. In this case it is Iris Ambrette, the powder scent of the collection. If you've already tested some of the Iris scents, new fragrances with this note will make you wonder in which direction this scent is heading. Will it be a clean scent from Prada L'Homme, a scent that sniffs for fresh laundry and is wearable on any occasion ? Will it be more noble, seductive and arrogant like a Valentino Uomo Intense and Givenchy Gentlemen ? Or is it going in a direction that is new, unknown or hardly used ? All questions that make you curious from time to time and keep us perfumos busy.
After my test I can now say that Iris Ambrette is more likely to go in the direction of Prade L'Homme or Prada L'Homme Intense. But with a small and fine twist, which makes the fragrance self-contained enough not to run the risk of speaking of a copy. In its entirety it is somehow clean, but at the same time wicked and dark. At the same time, it is different from Prada L'Homme Intense, which also has a certain dirty note, but on my skin it was strangely metholar. That's why it didn't convince me as much as the Eau de Toilette. Unlike the Intense, the dark note of Iris Ambrette is not produced by tonka bean and patchouli, but by cedar wood, vetiver and the ambrette musk that gives it its name. This combination produces no sweetness compared to tonka beans, so that the Iris Ambrette gets its touch of sweetness only from the iris note.
As already mentioned, Iris Ambrette is a fairly clean fragrance with darker hues. The start is determined by a heavy use of powder and cedar wood, which in this fragrance has a much darker tone than I'm used to from other perfumes. Quite dark woodsy, almost with a hint of smokiness from the start. You could even say that these two notes fill the fragrance too much at the beginning, and everything can seem a bit overloaded. Little by little, this view improves, as both notes go back a bit and release the other ingredients. This way the fragrance becomes fresher and gets a musky note, which is not negative. Powdery notes are still present, wrapping this note in fluffy blankets. In the drydown, the combination of dark woods and powdery was a bit more pronounced, so that it comes back to its start.
Because of this quite violent start the Sillage is also accordingly pronounced. The first hour is completely filled with roving powder clouds and a certain smokiness. In the immediate vicinity, everyone notices that a scent is probably being tested here. The whole thing gradually fades away, but the powderiness has been getting into my nostrils for a while. Of the Rirana fragrances tested so far, Iris Ambrette is the one that lasts best on my skin. After six hours, the perfume is still clearly audible and made no attempt to take one step away from it.
If you like iris scents, you should definitely try this one. Already quite potent and very long on the skin, but in the end it's not one that completely convinced me.
