One for the money.
Some names of perfumes have to be taken literally, with others you have to see them more as a source of inspiration for a certain situation or attitude towards life. Such is the case with Blue Suede Shoes, as this isn't really a typical blue (aquatic/shower gel) scent - compared to some designers, anyway - and leather isn't a central note either. Instead, this aromatic fougère is meant to embody a bit of rock 'n' roll with the contrasts that are found here.

Of the top notes, bergamot and lavender make themselves rather more discreetly noticeable, while the spicy freshness is more powerful and is particularly characterized by a minty, cooling effect and fortunately not really reminiscent of anise. In addition, the coumarin sweetness (tonka bean) and a dry woody note (cedar) are immediately perceptible, giving Blue Suede Shoes a certain complexity without being too heavy. Over time, as usual, the freshness wears off and apart from some lavender, nothing remains of the top notes and the scent turns even more in the woody direction and patchouli comes out more, giving it a darker, more mature facet.

The eponymous song, written by Carl Perkins and made by Elvis Presley to the world hit, I personally find quite hackneyed and somewhat annoying - I feel the same way with a component, which can be clearly filtered out here: A very specific pungent, synthetic-woody scent I've come across many times - the examples range from Persil liquid laundry detergent to Xerjoff's Alexandria II - and has ruined quite a few perfumes for me with its penetrance. With Blue Suede Shoes, however, I have to say that this quality is just about on a tolerable level.

Otherwise, I like the fragrance quite well and also seems very balanced, although I would not exactly wear it in midsummer, because the freshness is not consistent enough for that. It applies as so often: do not trust the short paper test, but longer time on the skin smell. (Many fragrances seem fresher / brighter on paper strips.) With a more natural cedar note Blue Suede Shoes would be quite interesting for me, so it is too little for a niche fragrance.

Successful out of the niche
Herb-fresh crowd pleaser that can be worn all year round. Aniseed and sandalwood dominate the fragrance, it makes you in a good mood and the feedback from the environment has so far been clearly positive. For some time now, something from the niche that doesn't annoy, i.e., doesn't smell sticky-sweet or smells like oud. Both thumbs up!

The Blue Suede Shoes to spray on?
I simply ordered this perfume blindly, maybe it was the thought of the Elvis song of the same name. The flacon looks very noble, but the same has to be true for the content, so spray it on quickly. In the beginning I smell a big load of spices I guess pepper as a hot note, but this note is immediately steamed with a soft vanilla note and takes the hotness away. I also clearly take the lavender note. The bergamot note is also present but only a side note. I would classify the fragrance as fresh sweet. Blue Suede Shoes isn't a perfume you'd expect a miracle, it's more of an all-purpose weapon for the office or everyday use when the temperature outside is below 25 degrees. Blue Suede Shoes has me somehow under its spell - it's classic and at the same time not overloaded with many scents. I think Elvis would have liked this perfume as well, timeless and classic like his music.

All-purpose weapon without purpose
Do you know that when you smell the atomizer in a perfumery and you like the fragrance super well? Then you spray it with anticipation and are bitterly disappointed?

That's what happened to me with Blue Sude Shoes. When I first sniffed the bottle, I was impressed by the perceived all-purpose suitability of the fragrance. Bergamot, lavender, vetiver, labdanum for the summer. Ambergris, cedar, sandalwood, tonka for the winter. It never seemed too warm, never too hot for the fragrance. At the atomizer everything still smelled as if all ingredients had been combined into a harmonious fragrance.

On the skin then unfortunately no longer. The scent wants to develop in different directions and acknowledges this with a smell that I perceived as pungent. The course of the scent is comparatively linear. I smell lavender, tonka, woods from beginning to end and somehow I don't find anything beautiful about them. Durability and sillage are above average, but not top-of-the-top. But what's the point if the scent doesn't appeal? What a hassle.

Conclusion: I was hoping for an all-purpose weapon and was scared away. I was hoping to make friends with Roberto Ugolini with this fragrance and I was scared away. It's a pity. Lavender and potash lovers will get their money's worth with Tom Ford's Lavender Extreme or MFK's masculin Pluriel.

Cheers

Designer DNA in high quality
One should not expect a highly complex and fancy fragrance from Blue Suede Shoes.
It is much more a mixture of fresh spicy designer notes, which have been raised to a higher Qualitatives level, which is noticeable.

I don't usually like mainstream shower gel scents, but this one is different. There is somehow more sophistication and craftsmanship behind it.

In summary, this might be the entry level niche fragrance. Pleasing fragrance DNA with strong performance.

This fragrance is good and in my opinion the most mass appealing one of Roberto Ugolini. But therefore also the least special.
