Too light to be GOLD
The concept of "gold" in perfumery... now we could have a lengthy and amusing discussion about this topic and cite various examples of perfumes named "Gold" which do in fact represent supreme achievements in expressing luxury, brilliance, opulence... - let's conjure up the smell of Amouage's GOLD for a second and... enjoy.
Now - enter Roberto Verino, a Spanish designer who asked Olivier Polge to come up with a Verino-version of "Gold".
Well, what is it like? The Verino fragrance doesn't remind me of anything precious at all, it smells faint-hearted. The first whiff really made me wonder what this scent consists of and further analysis during the day did not help me. In fact, I can't take the notes apart, neither the flowery nor the ambery chords. The scent is nothing but a light whisper, a "wallflower" perfume. There's a bit of everything: some iris, jasmine, patchouli, amber... but all mixed in a very low key fashion. I was not able to pinn this one down - it's nondescript and disappointing given the expectations I had when trying it.
