Tiger's contact lenses
Face down in the moss. Thank God, the champagne flute is still in one piece. I'm digging like mad in the peaty soil, stealing my lemons. There aren't many. I stare at the back of my hand. That son of a bitch has marked his territory. Gotta keep moving. Feel his pale paprika breath.

A small puddle of sparkling wine on green overgrown ground. I greedily slurp the dew, which according to its sour note can only be an old, noble drop. Somehow expired, but deliberately. Like a Norne today, but instead of the sweet-etheric, fermented woody, like nothing known in nature. Real oakmoss. I'm thinking Success, Paco Rabanne, Lauder for Men. It's hard to know where to start and where to stop having sex.

I stumble through a densely overgrown, exotic world of plants, but I am still not interested in it, too busy to look into the flute, balance the lemons and pick the remaining earth out of my teeth.

Then I pause. It's all right. It's an '80s chypre jungle I got into. Super dense, with lots of shades. Disco lights, terrycloth covers and hygienically excessive things worked into a complex natural growth. Little ironed out, without the urge to dismantle everything into its sterile individual parts. And with a latent herbaceousness that is sultry and vegetable. Sparkling tiger eyes. Survivor.

Shortly before I think I'm about to hold a very mature, but somehow timeless galbanum cocktail with an earthy citrus fruit mystery in my hands, it tears me to the ground.

She holds two thick lemons in front of my face. The tiger creeps elegantly around the ferns and lianas. He steps out of his hiding place and doesn't even look at me
"Out of sheer friendship, he did not kill you. He likes you."

He pisses in the champagne flute
I stand up and wipe the dirt off my pants.

"That's nice of him. I like him too. Especially since he didn "t attack me. It "s as if he had an order. There seems to be a somewhat rougher tone here at all."

She approaches me and removes the arrow from my head.

"Don't talk nonsense. He likes playing with you. And he's nothing against the power of the old forest."

Someone holds out a full champagne flute to me from a velvet seating area. I take the glass and drink it. Far away glittering and booming.

The only reasonable thing seems to me to be challenging the Mistress of the Forest to a dance-off, 8 minutes Boogie Wonderland.

Good idea, I still think, becoming one with the movements, overgrowing in green acidity.

(Thanks, dear Tabla, for the rehearsal.)

Pure seduction in a bottle
That I have developed a great affection for chypre scents is certainly already quite well known. I am also aware that this scent is rather rejected by some inclined sniffers. I understand that only too well Chypres can appear very creaky, rugged and repellent or even old-fashioned.
But this scent deserves a closer look, because there are so many different variants, even those that are less brittle and much more lovable.
I also like to rummage around in the past and discover fascinating treasures there again and again.
Don't worry, it's not going to be another "Everything used to be better" tirade. It gets boring when the same record is played over and over again.
But when I get hold of such full-bodied vintage treasures from time to time, I realize that in the past there was more tinsel, from a fragrance point of view Because everything is still in them that is outlawed, regulated, frowned upon and anyway no longer politically correct. But I don't want to start a discussion that will lead nowhere. The opinions are too different
Now some time ago an extensive test package from Mrs. E. from B. came to my nose. Several finely and carefully selected samples of fragrances that I had not yet heard of. Newer fragrances and vintage mixed. Many beautiful things were there. I was blown away
One of the fragrances that especially stuck with me is this one, Mystère by Rochas, which has hit my heart with all its might.
On the one hand, because it presents exactly the direction I like and, on the other hand, because it allows all the notes used in this fragrance to become a highly complex, elegant and present whole.
In addition to a dense abundance of floral notes, there is a good portion of oakmoss and a well-dosed blob of civet as an animal component.
Now I am usually quite at war with very animalistically oriented scents. Cibet is also an extremely delicate component. Too much of it makes a scent smell like a predator cage incl. markings, finely dosed it gives a scent a certain raffitücke.
What I find interesting about Mystère is that the top, heart and base notes blur rather quickly and that not a single citrus aspect appears here. I admit, I don't miss that at all here I smell bitter galbanum at the beginning, but very quickly the floral components are added, which remain present throughout the entire duration. And almost as quickly the spicy base is added.
I usually find it quite interesting when a fragrance changes a little over a period of time, but I really like the relatively linear progression of Mystère.
Among the floral notes, hardly any flowers stand out, only carnation and jasmine are slightly in the foreground.
The fragrance seems to me from the outset adult, silky soft, warm, cuddly and with a subtle translucent and gentle eroticism.
And this is exactly the mystery of this wonderful fragrance for me:
Mystère is a thoroughly seductive, attractive and erotic fragrance. But here the perfumer doesn't fall into the house with superficial or even vulgar lechery, so to speak, no he manages to keep this erotic attraction subtle, subtle and profound. Never does the fragrance whine around loudly, never does the fragrance appear cute and playful somewhere. Here a certain seriousness is quite noticeable.
And that over a remarkably long period of time, Mystère easily lasts 14 hours with me. One is also very well perceived, but even if the fragrance has a clear presence, it doesn't play anybody against the wall I would recommend the colder season because of the warm aura.

Released in the late 70s as a women's fragrance, I find Mystère to be absolutely suitable for men, if you're into quite distinct floral notes. The scent is also not sweet at all Since the fragrance has long since disappeared from the market, but I wanted it in any case, I looked around a little. And in a well known online auction house I finally found it.
A new and still shrink-wrapped bottle traveled from the Netherlands to me and I gave it to myself for my birthday, so to speak.
What makes me especially happy is the fact that the fragrance is still completely intact and nothing seems to be tilted.
The bottle is the straight-lined, fluted version, as simple as it is beautiful.

In my opinion, Mystère was created by Rochas, a masterpiece that I am happy to give full marks to. And I thank Mrs. E. from B. for bringing me to the fragrance.

Inspiration
“Thus mellow’d to that tender light
Which heaven to gaudy day denies.”

Lord Byron was right.
MYSTERE - what a wonderfully mysterious perfume created by the great Nicolas Mamounas to represent a woman of a darker persuasion. A deep, aromatic chypre like the “best of dark and bright” in her eyes - combined with “raven tresses.” Rumours has it that Byron was inspired by a woman in her mourning garb. What was Mamouna's inspiration? MYSTERE remains one of the unsurpassed marvels of perfume history. Discontinued. Prices still rising and rising.

Mysterious Mystere
Mystere reminds me of a bracing French white wine in which you can taste the limestone and other minerals from the soil. It has a dry, ashy top but the civet in it renders the drydown a bit sweeter and creamy. This fascinating chypre deserves its cult following.
