Interesting Facts

The beginning of the iconic French fragrance house Roger & Gallet dates back to 1695 when the druggist Giovanni Paolo Feminis launched several iconic perfumes. According to Feminis, the formulas originated from monks in the Orient, while others attributed the creations to a monastery in Florence. When Giovanni Paolo Feminis moved to Cologne in 1725, his fragrances were also very successful in Germany and later at the French court. The high nobility also used the fragrances as medicine to help against fever, nausea, rheumatism, colic, ulcers, too much stomach acid, and impotence.

The fragrances based on a traditional monk's recipe did not become part of the permanent perfume brand until 1862 when the bank director Charles Martial Gallet and the merchant Charles Armand Roger founded their perfume company "Roger & Gallet''. The two partners acquired the perfume business with all the formulas of Feminis and started selling different floral fragrances.

The individual aromas of "Roger & Gallet" are mainly natural fragrances such as orange (Bois d'Orange), rose (Rose), or green tea. In addition, many of the brand's fragrances always resonate with a hint of the Orient.

After several changes in the company structure, the brand went to "Gucci" in 1999 and to "L'Oreal" in 2008. In addition to perfume, the selection also includes shower gel, body lotions, toilet sprays, and the traditional scented soap.
