Not only niche - but unique!
Niche implies that there is a bit of space, for example in the niche under our stairs, where from the mineral water box to the car seat elevation (my sons are now 160 and 186 cm tall......:) ) over the years, everything that should be quickly removed from view found space. And that's a lot now. That's why a niche is not quite so small for me - and many niche fragrances also have a pretty fast output of perfumes. But what should you call it if a label actually only has one perfume or the label is this one fragrance?
That's what Rose Desgranges is all about! Some of you already know that I am looking for "my" perfect rose - and some of you have helped me a lot with this hunt. On the weekend, my sister from Paris brought me a seductive pink bag filled with an equally delicate pink fragrance. Hidden in a backyard of the Rue de Faubourg Saint-Honoré is the small shop that sells the perfume. Oh yes, you heard right: Exactly this one scent - more niche is not possible, I would say!
But it is not only a fragrance that one acquires, but with it also an extremely romantic story of young love, hope and family cohesion. The mother of the present owner, Rose, was a young country girl who had to give up her dream of becoming a pianist during the war in order to feed her family. In Paris she found work in a hair salon in the Rue de Faubourg Saint-Honoré. The owner, a trained druggist, fell in love with the 16-year-old and when she later became his wife, he created a perfume for her that was to be reserved for her alone.
From the original perfume there is a last bottle, which is also exhibited in the boutique. Years later, Rose's daughter decided to bring her mother's unique scent back to life and bring it to the present. The choice fell on Benoist Lapouza, a perfumer entrusted with the demanding task of bringing the fragrance into the present without abandoning its original structure.
The result is an ingratiating, light fragrance that is nevertheless unmistakable. The originally used natural and very high-quality building blocks of rose, jasmine, ylang ylang and iris were combined to create a sensual floral fragrance.
The start is tenderly fresh and citric with a fruity note of bergamot and mandarin. Within minutes, this component is embedded in the floral heart, yet a hint of fruity acidity remains. One cannot say that the rose dominates the other flowers and yet the result is clearly a rose scent. Similar to the top note, the flower fullness is quickly absorbed by the base, which according to the pyramid contains vanilla, musk, patchouli, ambrette and oakmoss. I do not smell the ingredients of the base all - with the exception of light musk and later the unsweet vanilla perhaps. The base is an overall composition that becomes warmer, softer, a touch spicier and a hint sweeter, embracing the floral scent without crushing it or making it heavy.
It is probably impossible for me to judge the fragrance objectively, because too many emotions resonate. It is a gift from my sister, whom I did not see for a long time, as she now lives on another continent. With every job, the knowledge resonates that she was looking for something very special for me despite jetlag at the stopover in Paris - and this unbelievable coincidence that she picked up a rose scent that I find enchanting - without knowing that I was looking exactly for it. So how should it be possible for me not to love this fragrance, in which there is so much affection - and which lets my sister, who is far away again, stay very close to me...
