The heirs of Spiridione Calabrese
To appreciate this interesting, but not earth-shattering fragrance, a statement would have sufficed in itself. But when I researched here at Parfumo before I started writing, I noticed that the brand "Rudy Profumi", unknown to me so far, lists a lot of perfumes (but not all of them, I registered some yesterday), some very current ones and some from 1940 (?!?), but that there are practically no comments yet. Curious become, I extended my Internet search and present here some of the won realizations, before I will introduce this smell afterwards myself
Rudy Profumi is not, as I thought at first, a failed pseudonym, where "Profumi" would be the last name. The brand and the company behind it are actually called "Rudy", and the word "Profumi" (fragrances) has been added for clarification. So it is as if the brand "Mercedes" had been made clear to "Mercedes cars". Rudy's actually an old brand. Founder was Spiridione Calabrese in 1920, contrary to his surname of Milan, which was indicative of southern Italy. Already before 1920 he was active in the beauty business and allegedly invented lipstick; until then lip colour existed only in the form of pots, but not in the form of pencils. Then in 1920 he decided to enter the perfume business and founded a luxury brand "Rudy" (how he got his name is not mentioned) and an everyday consumer brand "Ubery". It then tells of the development of the company under Calabreses son Antonio and of the fame of the brand and some of its fragrances in the 30s, 40s and possibly 50s. Today the company is managed by the third and fourth generation of the family. Since no information about the 60's to 00's can be found on the homepage of the company, I do not want to exclude that "Rudy", like so many continental fragrance houses, has closed its gates after the war sometime and the children and grandchildren who still have the old recipes, In the last few years it has been decided to start anew, but for the sake of a better, older image, to continue the venerable tradition and only pretend that there is an uninterrupted tradition. Either way, I have sympathy points for the fact that there is still a traditional, independent family business on the market here. It seems to me that Italy in general is a country whose economic structure is maintained by traditional but also modern and mobile small and medium-sized enterprises; perhaps similar to Germany, although in other sectors. Especially with the fragrances there seems to be still or again many small successful family businesses in Italy.

Today's company "Rudy", which is famous for its rapid expansion and presence in more than 30 countries, has nothing more to do with luxury products, however, it seems to me. The grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the founder have, who would blame them for it, focused on a mass-suited, but not necessarily bad approach. The website contains six product directions or fragrance families, one of which is "Italian Fruits", specialized in fruity fragrances. Then there is a Cologne family and four flowery and aromatherapeutically natural families. Within each family there are a handful of individual fragrances, so "Citrus Fruits" is one of the fragrances of the "Italian Fruits" family. And for each individual fragrance there are again half a dozen individual products, so you can also purchase liquid soap, hair shampoo and all kinds of other cricri from the "Citrus Fruits" in addition to the EdT listed here. The whole thing is - as is fortunately usual in Italy - combined with a successful, somewhat playful design and proper PR. Another source told me that Rudy also offers dog care products. This would fit into the "mass-produced" picture, but it can be assumed that the operators do not want to mess up their image with it and therefore advertise this line separately and not via their main website.

The scent itself: After a spicy alcoholic start we encounter (not surprisingly) strong citric notes, which do not impress bitter or tart, but rather citric-sour, but above all creamy dimmed and somewhat sweetish. Now, as in the following, there is always something tingling, my mucous membranes charming in the game, which I could not identify yesterday during testing. Now, on trying again, I'd say, "it's the aldehyde, stupid." I hadn't figured it out because it wasn't in the fragrance pyramid, but now I think it's a foregone conclusion that these citrus fruits are a very aldehyde-heavy elixir. In the further process the citric turns into a clearly flowery (and then quite feminine looking) middle part and after about 5 hours, already very close, warm and soft. At the very end, when almost nothing is left, the citric notes come out again (at least that's the way it seems to me), and that's very uncreamy, a little bitter and almost male
Yesterday at Research I proposed a change from female to unisex and I am sticking to it, because I don't realize that the fragrance would have been designed specifically for women or is advertised for women. I also consider him quite wearable for men. From the composition point of view, with the flowers, aldehydes and the soft base, it is, I have to admit, a rather feminine fragrance; so you research staff, if you reject my suggested change here, I don't blame you.

Many thanks to the donor of the sample and good luck to the heirs of Spirdione!
