Dupont's Royal Amber defies the big boys
I bought an S.T. Dupont fragrance for the first time 2 months ago. As usual for a non-mainstream perfume, this was a blind buy for me.
My attention was captured by the magnificent bottle and the amber note. Amber and oud are probably the notes I like the best. I can only say that I don't regret one cent of the price I paid for it.
This stuff is signature scent material. It will be difficult for me to resist the other fragrances of this series.
After a couple of sprays, you notice that this fragrance is all about amber, leather and a bit of oud. A divine amber that embraces all around you, blended with a very smooth bitter leather and a well-behaved oud background.
There is something animalistic about the fragrance that catches your attention in a good way. The notes combination also led you to scent a balsamic aura around the created ambience together with a gorgeous smokiness.
Sixteen hours ago, I sprayed the back of my hand twice I can still sniff a very faint skin scent. You get bigger performance if you spray on your clothes and hair.
This persistent long dry-down phase is very alluring. And although its sillage and projection are just average, the longevity may last between ten and sixteen hours depending on where you spray and your skin chemistry.
My rates for S.T.Dupont Royal Amber:
___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Scent opening: 9.5 (resinous and very spicy)
Scent Dry Down: 10.0 (velvety, woody and ambary)
Longevity: 9.0 (very very long; 2 sprays may last for 10-16 hours in my skin, but only a skin scent after the 8th hour)
Sillage: 7.5 (5 feet at its peak with just 2 sprays)
Uniqueness: 8.5 (quite unique but there is a resemblance with Halston Man Amber, Amber Oud and Ambré Oud)
Wearability: 9.0 (Its subtleness lets you wear it all around the year with the sole exception of the summer daytime)
Versatility: 9.0 (As long as the people around you are comfortable with an alluring oriental scent, you may use it everywhere with the sole exceptions of beach and workout.)
Quality: 9.0 (my judgement)
Presentation: 10.0 (Definitely in the front row of any shelf.)
Price: 7.5 (100 ml non-tester for 38 Euros + taxes + shipping on a black Friday; usually sells at a bit more than 50 Euros)
___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Overall rating: 8.98/10.00
- between 7 and 8 = above average;
-between 8 and 9 = recommended;
-bigger than 9 = don't miss it;
I strongly recommend this fragrance to both genders. It's totally unisex.
Blind buy? Yes if you are an amber lover.
