The Bits & Bytes Pencil
"Super 8" is a futuristic pencil scent, a gray leather wolf from a computer game.

This cedar note reminiscent of pencil lead could be a pervasive trail and DNA at Salle Privée, but let's wait and see the next few days. "Super 8" reminds me of a slightly flatter, straighter and more monotone version of "Chambre Noir" from Olfactive Studio. A sweet leather incense scent with a synthetic touch to the max - but for once not meant to be cheap or pungent, but conceptually coherent and very fitting. A very cinematic and texturally rich scent, somewhat reminiscent of papyrus and canvases. Great stuff. An experimental signature option. A few euros over the top, perhaps. But the classic cinema theme appeals to me a lot and Salle Privée seems to offer clear concepts and high quality. Art, it's fair to say.

Flacon: Pharmacy meets niche
Sillage: Everyday routine
Shelf life: 6-8x60 minutes

Verdict: a futuristic woody incense that proves that enormous synthetics can be great. Here it fits the concept. Gray pencils on faux leather in a crowded movie theater

Friday Fright Night
Images flicker in a private room. The projector whirs, casting flickering light. In a corner, Freddy grinds blades. Metal screeches on stone. Sparks spray neroli bright. Hit the eye ingw sharp. Freddy curses and there's Jason laughing, always wearing a mask, safe as houses. The edges of the screen turn blood red. Oh come on, girl, don't get upset, it'll just make another mess! A shrill scream rings out, it could split grapefruits. Michael leave Lauie alone, you can't understand your own words!
Just as the images flicker and flicker, the soundtrack is no longer pristine either. It hisses. Spices in the drum from the sound engineer and always a low babble in the background. Ash closes the book and the babbling stops. Like that's going to do anything, goes right back up anyway. Necronomicon is written on the cover, we guessed.
Mist billows across the floor. There's a smell of smoke and hot plastic. Can you hear sabers rattling from outside? Hopefully not, if they come too it'll be crowded in here. But what luck, the smoke is coming from the projector. The rattling too, something's not right. Leahterface should take a look, but he's AWOL. I wonder what happens when the lights go out The guests are good for surprises, that's for sure. The projector hisses and smokes...

---------------------------

Super 8, for me, is first and foremost an incense scent. Sure, there's a grapefruit at the beginning, but it's quickly gone. Also spicy notes are there, pepper and cardamom I would like to believe, I can not recognize them. Then there is also something fresh, neroli and ginger. But what makes the scent and carries it over time is the incense. This comes across quite artificial and if it had been (a bit of fresh-spicy artificial incense), this fragrance of Salle Privée would also have been one that would have droned along between 5 and 6.
That he then comes to an 8, is due to a plastic note, which is relatively long through the fragrance. It is perhaps the sandalwood, which otherwise does not appear so much, but perhaps also a very artificial leather, which I can otherwise not perceive at all. Whatever it is, it gives the scent something special that makes me endure the artificiality and lifts the scent out of mediocrity. Anyway, I never thought I'd enjoy plastic in a perfume. But it's also not a coking plastic or scorched cables.
No, this plastic smell reminds me of the old days. Not of Super 8 films, we didn't have those, but of electrical appliances heating up. The - even then old - tube radio for example, but especially my father's slide projector. An old one from Leitz with a slide-through mechanism, where you had to insert the slides one by one (the slide evenings could take a while).
Or even the VHS recorder and the big tube TV (who no longer knows, Wikipedia knows more). They took a while to create the specific scent, but after the second movie on the movie marathon afternoon, it gets there. And what movies do you watch as a pubescent boy in the 80s? Exactly, horror-splatter-shockers or Star Wars. But that's not so bad, I turned out okay, and I don't go murdering through the night more often than anyone else.
To come back to the Super 8: The plastic note disappears after 2-3 hours and then only incense remains, which is a pity. For a purchase, however, he is out of the question anyway, the prices of Salle Privée are just laughable for what is offered, this applies to the other fragrances even more, but just for this.

Thanks to LysdeKerk for the hiking letter!

Sunday Mass
The floorboards creaked under my steps as I strode devoutly to my seat. Once there, I slid onto the dark wooden bench and settled down on the old and brittle leather covering. It seemed that the congregation was not yet full - still five minutes until Mass. My gaze wandered through the church's nave, which had passed with clouds of incense, and paused briefly on the cross, priest, and candles. As I waited for the last few minutes to pass, I stroked my freshly shaved chin, like a whim. It took me a few seconds to realize that the fresh-tart smell I now detected was that of my own aftershave. My hand slid back to my lap, my arm grazing the outside pocket of my jacket. The crackling sound of the pocket's contents made me think of the ginger jellies inside. My hand slid gingerly into the pocket and fingered out one of the jellies, which found its way into my mouth without detour. The sweetness of the sugar instantly mixed with the spiciness of the ginger, making my mouth water. Just at that moment, the doors in the back of the church closed, the service began, and I reached for the hymnal in the rack in front of me.

Salle Privées Super 8 makes a bit of an outlier from the house's otherwise very inconsequential collection, presenting itself as a rock-solid fragrance. Fresh, tart and with a certain spiciness reveals the opening of grapefruit, lots of pepper and cardamom. Underneath the first fresh layer, however, a large portion of dark wood, tanned leather and incense reveals itself relatively quickly. It's the blend of these three scents that immediately brings to mind pews and makes the scent wonderfully masculine and a bit mysterious. The actual twist is created by the use of the ginger. The sweet spiciness, which is more reminiscent of the candied form of the root, flashes from time to time and actually makes this contender more interesting than its brothers and sisters in the collection. Only durability and sillage are here not exactly the racer.

I must say that I was quite positively surprised by Super 8 - however, the bar was not particularly high compared to the other fragrances of Salle Privée
