You wimp! Say who you are callin a blimp - Jungle Jezebel
What a fragrance... Thanks to the dear PallasCC, my better half and I were able to "enjoy" this fragrance. At first I thought, it will probably go to my lady... Far from it... The fragrance attracted me more and more into his spell... When the fragrance wet my skin for the first time, I was clear: "THE MUST HER".

Now some questions will probably arise: "What is a Jungle Jezebel & why does the bottle look the way it does?"

First:
The fragrance is also available in the normal flacons from Sarah Baker.
The bottle displayed on Parfumo, is the bottle from the "Artist Edition" which is limited to 250 pieces worldwide.

And now for the topic of what is a jungle jezebel... Whoever uses Google or other search engines will quickly find what they are looking for. Jungle Jezebel is a song by Divine. Who's Divine???
Divine was the most famous drag queen of his time. She made a name for herself both in film roles and in music.

Now search for Divine... Look at the pictures & then look at the bottle of the "Artist Edition" ;)
I think here they wanted to set a small monument to "Divine" & in my eyes this is absolutely successful! So for me as a music & perfume lover with a collector's heart only the "Artist Edition" came into question

That concludes the theme around "Flacon and what's Jungle Jezebel" and I'll devote myself to the fragrance.

First of all:
If "DOULEUR!" from Bogue was too "extreme" & "weird" for you, you should go right on ;)

With the fragrance there are two experiences I was allowed to make with my nose:

1. When my partner sprays this fragrance on, it starts with slightly animalistic civet notes (these are only light in comparison, more on this later), which mate with bananas, chewing gum and other sweet fruits. In the meantime, the scent becomes very sweet and fruity on her, until clouds of civet swing the whip again and again. The whole thing alternates again and again in cycles! Exciting and beautiful. I like the scent on her, she likes it too ..
2. When I spray the fragrance on myself, it starts off extremely animalistic... The "light civet note" that you could perceive on my lady explodes on my skin. She is a diva, she is loud and extreme. She screams: "Here I am! Does it bother you? I dont give a fuck!!!" Awesome! Where are the fruits on me? After a few minutes they join in. Probably only the banana will be brave enough to get the full width of the zibet. This combination has an almost medicinal effect on me. In the meantime the banana gets stronger and reminds me a little bit of the banana from the old "Bat"/"Night Flyer". But really only for a short time, because on my skin the animalism is predominant. This becomes so strong that my lady has already felt it to hard in the meantime. "You smell like a pissed up stable" quote Belakiss
For me, Miguel Matos & Sarah Baker have done an incredibly beautiful and brilliant job here. This fragrance is a work of art for me and captures the wacky nature of Divine perfectly.

- Colourful, extreme, special and simply ingenious -

Not everybody's darling, but honestly? Who cares? I wear a fragrance for me and not for others ;)

If you like experiments, you should test this fragrance.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder
Perfume opinions are subjective. So are the opinions of those opinions. And maybe this review is positive. And maybe it’s negative. You decide.

Jungle Jezebel. The perfume with either an adorable or hideous bottle, depending on your personal tastes. Again, subjective. I’ve been in the “it’s hideous” camp from day one. I found it shockingly horrible. And because of the bottle I had no interest in trying the perfume. I tuned out all the reviews, I literally had zero interest. Then about a week or two ago, I learned it was inspired by Divine, the famous drag queen who died in the 80s. Hmm. This changes things a tad. I googled Divine then looked at pics of the bottle again. It was strangely starting to appeal to me. Even starting to look kinda cute. I googled. Watched videos of Divine. And googled more. And read VERY mixed reviews on Fragrantica and Facebook. Some downright frightening.

Okay, I want to smell this thing.

I tried Ebay and had no luck. Googled sample sites and still no luck. So, I reached out to a generous fragrance friend who had told me previously to let him know if he ever had anything I wanted to try. I asked if I could buy a tiny sample of Jungle Jezebel and he insisted on sending it without charging me anything.

The samples arrived last night but I had to go meet a client and there was NO WAY I was putting this on before going to meet him after reading those reviews. So, I had to wait until today. I can’t recall being quite so curious to smell anything in quite a while. I literally woke up thinking “oh boy I get to try it today!! ”. Almost a Christmas morning sort of feeling. I’m excited but also scared, because let me tell you, some of the reviews are NOT flattering lol. Yikes!! A few semi-traumatized me. But this feeling of excitement was thrilling.

Okay, so here goes. I go to the little taped up box of samples, lift the lid off and find it. Heart semi pounding, there it is. “Jungle Jezebel”. I really don’t know what to expect but I’m feeling pretty positive and brave, so I go ahead and spray on plenty on the back of my hands and bravely dab some on my neck. Okay, okay, not so bad! It’s sweet...bubblegum and banana. Not so scary! What is so scary about this?! I’m happily sniffing this banana Bubble Yum scent and something else starts happening. Something that’s not so yummy. Ah boy, it’s the civet. And it’s the type I have issues with. While I love vintage civet immensely, there is a synthetic type used in modern perfumery that sends me for the hills. I just can’t abide. It smells too butt-like, too funky and it’s just not the good kind of funk. It’s just funk. For me at least. So, I’m like okay, I see what they mean, this stuff is just not wearable. It stinks. It’s embarrassing. Like how could I get around people smelling like this? Musty butt and banana. I mean....just no.

So, while I’m sniffing it, I decide to listen to the Divine song, Jungle Jezebel, her trademark song, so I can experience it fully before scrubbing it off. See if I’m missing something somehow. I sat there watching this 300 pound actor, dressed in drag, sweating up a storm, spewing profanity, just generally acting vulgar....and it hit me, this perfume “is” Divine. It’s vulgar. It’s trashy. It flashy. It’s over the top. It’s embarrassing.

It’s a work of art.

It tells a story. It describes a human. The good and the bad. The sweet and the sweaty. It’s not pretty. Neither was Divine. But he thought he was. And “she” convinced us she was. Right up until she dropped dead. That’s what Jungle Jezebel does. She’s not pretty...but she bats her eyelashes and makes us believe she is.

So...I’m left trying to decide if Jungle Jezebel is an absolute disaster or if it’s a masterpiece. I wonder the same thing about Divine. And I think the answer is the same for both:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Drag as perfume
Jungle Jezebel is an ode to the infamous Divine and it does so perfectly. This is as close to campy drag as perfume can come. Cheap fruity bubblegum in the opening, which then soon is followed by a Kouros-like skanky civet note, a cocktail of tropical fruits and even cigarette smoke. This might not sound very recommendable but somehow it works and makes me smirk every time I smell this on me, which is hours on end because performance is through the roof.

Animalic fruity bomb!
Jungle jezebel is amazing. I must say that Miguel Mateños is becoming one of my favourite noses!
The opening is just marvelous. A fruity bomb full of banana, a note which is not used a lot un perfumery, with this synthetic-sweet vibe of the chewigum... Boom! Direct to your nose!!! Soon the character of the fragrance behind to change becoming more and more animalic, but very pleasant at the same time. The civet gets the protagonism of the fragrance together with the White and yellow flowers over a sweet background. The last phases of the perfume are for me very similar to civet by zoologist.
It is incredible how different is the development of jungle jezebel on a paper and on my skin. On the paper strip the banana-gum vibe keeps for lot of time being the civet only a companion. However on my skin the most noticeable note during the most parte of the duración of the fragrance is the civet, looking like a different perfume.
The perfume is very intense, Deep, dense and animalic so I think It fits better with night dressing and under not tío warm temperatures. I think It is totally unisex. It goes Direct to my wishlist with no doubts!

Too strange
“You sissy, sissy, you're just like Jungle Jim
Be careful where you sleep tonight, you don't know where he's been.”
She sang as Divine, in his controversial style, in Jungle Jezebel.
A fragrance inspired by this song: tropical, animalic, with tuberose and a big babol at the opening.
Very particular, even for me who for better or worse have smelled several fragrances.
To be tried, but almost impossible for me to wear.
