Grandiose stardust
Perfume is like food. Anyone who thinks eel in jelly is the biggest and most expensive thing the kitchen has to offer will not do you any favours by inviting them to Anne-Sophie Pic's three-star restaurant in Valence. The person in question would not only not understand the menu, but would also not like the food.
If you think "La Vie est belle" is the greatest thing the perfume market has to offer, Iris Silver Mist is not for you. Because this iris scent of all iris scents, this stone-dry brew of root sap and earth, of silver dust and ice water, of fog wall and castle dungeon, is only suitable for advanced perfume connoisseurs. Grandiose, poetic, the only perfume that fits the reading of Marcel Proust and Baudelaire. Or the Marquis de Sade. Indecent, sometimes annoying, but of a high standard. The best you can do with Iris.
But you should not wear it when you are travelling with eels in jelly. And that is almost always the case. I have my "cloche" from the Palais Royal at home to look at. From time to time I take a few drops. More is not possible

Perfect iris
Iris Silver Mist is an unusual and masterfully woven composition, elegant and noble. A perfect iris fragrance for me and unusual also because this iris root reminds me of a carrot for a split second at the very most when dabbing on the fragrance - and then never again.

I would characterize Iris Silver Mist basically as light and transparent, but the start is comparatively vehement and makes you sit up and take notice. Because Iris Silver Mist is accompanied at the beginning of almost sharp components. I am not someone who can smell the finest nuances, but I think galbanum is clearly perceptible here. Also a slightly smoky note rises to my nose. My fragrance-banausiger husband would probably comment with "here it smells burnt".

This effect is not long lasting and quite quickly the fragrance becomes soft, graceful, mellow. Silky surround me delicate clouds of fragrance. Like clear transparent mist veils, which dance early in the morning in autumn on the meadow. Rather ethereally delicate at the beginning, the mist changes over time, becoming softer, more vaporous, a bit more diffuse. Iris Silver Mist always remains silky and silvery, at no time becomes creamy.

Even if warm woods, musk and amber join in the course of the fragrance, a slightly metallic component ensures that a certain coolness always prevails. Iris Silver Mist retains an amazing clarity all the time.

The longevity is really very good on my skin at over 8 hours, the scent veils remain rather at arm's length. A bit melancholic I feel it, Iris SIlver Mist is not a cheerful good mood air, but serious, adult and belongs for me to the most beautiful Irisdüften.

One of my favorite photos here at Parfumo is the terrific "smoky" photo of EveMist. I especially admired the idea, composition and artistic rendering. But now that I've met Iris Silver Mist, I think the photo is even more brilliant, because it shows exactly how the fragrance smells. Sensational!

Cold Iris
This is an astonishing fragrance. The opening is a bit carroty, but then it is pure iris. The proudest one in your garden, standing alone. Despite the wet earth clinging to it, the iris is disconsolate and lonely, but the iris would never admit to such a thing. The air is cold.

The iris note lasts throughout, but it changes slightly in the middle. There is a soapiness there - but not a bad one -- it just reminds you not to taste this iris. She will not allow such intimacies.

The iris eventually settles into her earthy, woody base. I get vetiver here, but then it blends in with the cleanness of sandalwood and cedar. There is a faint spiciness here too.

Excellent Iris...
Can this be? An iris scent that appeals to me? In a word, the answer is "yes"! Iris Silver Mist opens with an almost alcoholic slightly medicinal accord that smells somewhat like rubbing alcohol but in a good way. Even in the top notes, the iris is faintly in the background but still detectable. The alcoholic medicinal qualities fade and the iris takes the fore in the scent's heart, becoming slightly powdery, while mixing with a beautiful cedar note and vetiver before ending with a nice sandalwood and musk base. The iris, unlike so many other scents that I detest never becomes distracting or overpowering, instead the balance is just right here. As far as projection, Iris Silver Mist is pretty much a skin scent, with longevity about average.

Iris Silver Mist is a definite winner from Serge Lutens and can be recommended to just about anyone as it is very unisex and quite pleasant smelling. If you are looking for a powerhouse scent look elsewhere, but if you have not enjoyed iris scents in the past like me, give this one a try as it is likely to impress you. 3.5 to 4 stars out of 5. Very Good!

Count Dracula's scent
Not for the novice. The first hours it is the scent of of Count Dracula, slowly moving through a cellar cemetery in an abandoned castle at midnight. Silvery moonlight through iron gated ceiling windows, tiny, sad irises observable in the windows edge. Dirt and old molding leaves on the ground. He stops moving, only his scent still lingers in the air.

After two hours we are still in his castle, but he has left the basement for the main hall. Abandoned, with a broken roof, silent rain drips from the night sky above. Now perhaps Count Dracula's nephew can wear the perfume, it has morphed into a younger dirty and ice cold iris smell.

After yet another two hours we go outside into an oak forest. The sun finally rises, but is covered by a wet, grey fog. It gives eerie shodows on the path we walk. As we continue through the cold, damp, mossy forest we still se irises peeking in the shadows. Finally I can wear the scent, it is now the perfume of a mere mortal. If you wear a cape.

Impossible to rate.

An iris wrapped in cloves. Piercing the air like a laser beam.

Balsamic, resinous, woody and... dark. I feel like digging inside the mind of Dr. Hannibal Lecter. It's a gem to cherish well.
