Man, he's ugly as hell
Once again a memory of the 80s, my youth with head hair and the upper Italian Laghi after the motto: there was still something or someone...
Sergio Soldano Black, formerly just Sergio Soldano. Black flacon for Uomini and white for Donne. The brand has disappeared from the market even in Italy except for the fragrance division. Former competitors like Enrico Coveri, Renato Balestra or Roberto Capucci still live a modest life in the form of key rings, purses, socks or underpants, but Sergio Soldano disappeared without a trace.
The flacon, a fake of Trussardi Uomo 83, is butt-ugly, but fits the times (open shirt and gold kettle, convertible, Ray B’)
Arrogance Uomo 87 also copies the Trussardi flacon, but almost perfectly. Of course, who knows Roccobarocco Fashion Man, a flacon in the form of a Zippo, black rubberized, whereby the rubber after a few months develops a disgusting rancid surface reminiscent of adhesive strips for catching flies, will appreciate this flacon at least haptic.
The spray button is flawless.
The fragrance is a brother in spirit of Arrogance pour Homme 82.
That's what the Italians can do. Copy themselves and thus cover their tracks. It starts freshly woody with nicely dominating musk, then turns floral green and patchouli hits through nicely delicious at the end. Synthetics are strangely completely absent, though from the look and feel I would have strongly suspected them. An all-rounder that is wearable all year round, beyond 30 I would think charming.

A historic charm bolt from Italy
What this idiosyncratic vintage Italian has made clear to me: how everything in perfume is connected! That the perception of a perfume is not only the fragrance alone, but also equally bottle, design, exterior and its feel and also the contemporary history and its fashions, which it has to tell. Which suits me just fine, because I can't do much with brand-new (niche) perfumes. Certainly, they all smell highly modern and sophisticated, and yet they often have surprisingly little to tell. The stark opposite of this is Soldanos Men Black. He has real association notes in stock that it cracks.
An unknown Italian. The whole brand itself will know in Germany with the exception of a few scattered Parfümnerds and Italian exiles no one. Online you can still buy it here. Thank God!
Its quirky exterior alone: it's pure contemporary history! I have never been allowed to marvel at such a strange as polarizing flacon: large and clunky. Made of black plastic that doesn't look high quality, the GDR sends its regards with a triple "Plaste und Elaste". You knock on it and get a hollow-sounding feedback. Wonderfully disturbing. That this plastic should be only a cover, which can be removed with a little fiddling, I have only afterwards realized. One English-language YouTuber aptly compared the Soldano's exterior to the dashboard of an '80s Fiat Ritmo - and his eyes glazed over because it beamed him back a little bit to the lifestyle of that weird decade. I can relate to that. If I were all the marketing departments of all the perfume companies, my first order of business would be to undo all the facelifts of the vintage fragrances in my portfolio and dig out the original look. A fragrance is, after all, a fragrance from that era - but so is its bottle!
At Soldano, they fortunately grasped that and left everything unchanged, no matter how quirky that may seem today.
Also, the fragrance as such has nothing ultra-modern about it, but also nothing stale: I say, here classic Italy meets timelessness. With "Black" as an attribute I do not agree, because he smells anything but "Black", neither dark nor very spicy. Rather bright, positive mood, after spring and departure, after blossom and what is still to come in the expected summer months. You know the feeling, right? I find it wonderfully simple and to the point to begin with. Forget-me-nots and lavender and lily of the valley last surprisingly long in the drydown. It gets more elegant and serious after an hour: it gives itself spicier and more austere, a hint of patchouli and the link between these states is the unique saline note, which I also consider a trademark of this fragrance. I like it because it is so honest. Down-to-earthness of the 80s kind.
Is Soldanos Black a masterpiece? By conservative standards, no. But as a real trashy experience with a huge portion of vintage feeling definitely. Because at this perfume in its entirety all standards grit their teeth. And that's good! Very much so.

The music to the fragrance - Righeira "Vamos a la playa" [1983]
The car to the scent - Fiat Ritmo [1978 - 1988]

Night black velvet evening cape
At night all cats are grey and all capes are black. When viewed in the light, the robe is green, already dark green, more precisely: forest green. Nero is a forest scent, actually from beginning to end. It is a loose mixed forest with many conifers, especially pines and cypresses.

At the beginning there is an iridescence in orange, yellow and green: citrus fruits, but very restrained, not at all sparkling, sour or fruity. There are also some citrus leaves fluttering around. A breeze of flowers passes by in the distance: lavender and violets create an atmosphere, as is often the case in men's fragrances.

Although the fragrance is very dense and homogeneous at all times, this is the first time I have clearly smelled lily of the valley in a men's fragrance. In older recipes with rich ingredients it is used regularly, so that it always sings along only in the choir. Solistically I don't appreciate this note at all. Here the lily of the valley shines sometimes here, sometimes there brightly out of the dark forest and makes the special of the fragrance in this phase.

It goes deeper into the forest. Some trees have resin dripping down, glistening and smelling in the scant sun, others have mosses and lichens shimmering. Earthy haze rises from the ground, peaty, mushroomy, herbaceous. Just as clearly as the white flower, I smell the thyme here for a while.

From the third hour on, Nero is a soft, spicy, earthy forest scent that still envelops me the whole evening - cuddly and elegant like a velvet cape. No bland black, but noble with fine embroidery and appliqués. Not an old-fashioned slow seller, simply unnoticed - no wonder with this abstruse bottle with leather-embossed plastic armor.

Had he disappeared from the market? Now he's here. Do I have a reformulation? Maybe it's a little synthetic, but I like it!
