UNFORGETTABLE
Is there the perfect all-embracing fragrance? I ask myself this question again and again, and I usually answer in the negative - because as a famous master poet so wisely said: I am the spirit that always denies!
And rightly so; for everything that comes into being is worthy of perishing.

But perish here now are the contents of my beloved flask, and before it bids farewell to the had-me list, I would like to pay due homage or tribute to it, for it is worthy of all recognition.

Féminité du Bois is another odeur de perfection. I also wear this fragrance only on very special occasions, the residue in the dainty brown glass bottle is too precious.
I'm not sure whether necessarily the winter determines its wearing time, even on wet and cold spring days, he can definitely let himself smell.

Unadorned brown and without bling-bling, unround, but still feminine presents the flacon, somehow this bottle almost has the shape of a resin drop that has already solidified from the tree.
Finest spices begin the fragrance round with cinnamon, roasted plum and warm flowers- graceful harmony in perfection, golden shimmering. Mild honey flows in, warm and cozy precious woods and powdery musk complement the ensemble. Nothing is obtrusive, everything fits, everything is right. The gentle character of the fragrance pyramid invites the nose and soul to rest, far away from loud and screeching artificialities Féminité du Bois seduces, touches, flatters, caresses and comforts in its spicy softness and femininity. This Shiseido masterpiece is the perfect culmination of all honey-cinnamon-plum-spice variations, the components playing off each other without drowning each other out and complementing each other as they work together.

Too perfect?

What about the pursuit of perfection and knowledge? Someone has thought about this before...
-
We are in the middle of the study, Faust proposes a wager to Mephistopheles. Faust bets that Mephistopheles will not succeed in dissuading him from his pursuit of ever more knowledge: If Faust abandons the pursuit of knowledge for comfort, Faust offers, then Mephistopheles may take him to his doom, then this shall be his last day. Faust says: "Will I say to the moment: Stay! Thou art so fair! Then thou may'st strike me in fetters, then will I gladly perish!
-
At times I think of this work when I put on Féminité du Bois. Is there any higher pleasure, or may one linger here forever? Then let the devil take me....

In the foreboding of such high bliss
I now enjoy the highest moment.

;-)

Late Summer Night's Dream
Here's a review of my latest discovery. I'll keep it short, because the fragrance has already inspired many here to beautiful, poetic texts, to which I have little to add. Nevertheless, I wanted to write something.
The scent starts, not surprisingly, with dry woods. Not dusty dry or lifeless, no there is warmth and definitely liveliness to it. Maybe it's the light, very slight earthy undertones? The image of Artemis in the undergrowth, so beautifully described by others here, fits well. But this copse is not a thicket, not a green jungle. It is a breezy forest at the end of summer. Autumn has not yet brought rain and there are dried plums hanging from the trees, parched from the heat of summer, spreading their warm, spicy fragrance. There is also a slight pungency, reminiscent of plum brandy. It's dusk at the edge of the forest and a warm wind enhances all the smells. The dry spiciness of cloves wafts in, immediately rounded out by beeswax, which adds a light, creamy and completely unobtrusive sweetness to the evening air.
Over time, this sweetness becomes stronger, but it always remains the soft sweetness of honey and dried fruit. The whole scent also gets softer and softer and snuggles up to the skin. Meanwhile, it reminds me of Indian rice pudding with cinnamon, cloves and other spices. And lots of honey. It's dusk by now and the dessert is being cooked in a wooden hut with beeswax candles everywhere. And the hut also crackles lightly and smells as night falls. Or is that a log in the fireplace burning completely smokeless, giving off that dry, woodsy aroma?
It's a late summer scent that tells of bountiful harvests, sunny days, and dry fields and woods. I can imagine it on cooler days, but also on a summer evening. It's beautiful, dry and soft all in one, tart and sweet combined. Spicy and dark, as if it could tell of lost magic, yet friendly and dark golden like an autumn sunbeam.

The Forbidden Forest
After the heavy downpour the evening before, the ever hotter morning sun transforms the meticulously tended garden with its meticulously trimmed bushes, English lawn and carefully planted flower beds into a huge mosaic of precious stones. Cowering in the emerald-green grass, like carelessly scattered amethysts, are violet violets. Ruby-red roses have a lavish scent and longingly stretch their open calyxes towards the rising sun. The bees hum lazily.

Whistling, I cross the garden on the way to my tree house, dressed in a washed-out shirt and jeans at the age of twelve. I drive my hand through my short cut curls. In a small basket I carry my mother's homemade spice cake, pick some ripe peaches and plums on the way and can't resist the temptation to pluck some flowers and put them in my basket together with the fruit. A beguiling potpourri of scents rises from my basket. I stop and sniff: a spicy and tempting scent is in the air, coming from the nearby cedar forest. I have never entered this forest, too many wild stories are going around the village and exploring the forest is strongly discouraged. Besides, my ma has strictly forbidden me to...
The wind rustles in the treetops. I take a deep breath and enter the dark forest. The birdsong stops almost instantly. Except for the sound of a knocking woodpecker it is completely silent. As I feel my way forward, a murmur and whisper rises, dark shadows scurry around, pairs of eyes watch me. Hands reach for me, I shake them off. Sometimes a bright voice cries out, then everything is quiet again. An indescribably spicy-balsamic scent fills the air, I literally suck the scent into myself. I don't know how long I have been wandering through this forest, I have lost all sense of time...

Finally I reach a clearing and stop. Completely astonished I notice that my clothes have become much too tight and too short, I irritatedly get rid of them, hopefully nobody will cross my path. Fortunately my underwear is still a little bit too tight. I throw my long hair back and continue my way.

It cracks in the thicket. A deer with huge antlers appears before me. For a moment it stands completely still and looks at me with big, dark eyes before it jumps away light-footedly.
A softly rising and falling hissing fills the air, the forest thins out, the hissing becomes louder...at the same time the scent becomes weaker.

The ocean stretches before me, dark blue, almost black. The roar of the surf fills the air. A huge red sun sinks into the horizon. I take one last look at the cedar forest where my femininity has awakened...

Slowly I wade into the water and let myself slide into the dark waves. Only for a fraction of a second I am amazed by the withered skin on my forearms and the light brown spots on my hands. I smile tiredly and swim slowly but resolutely further, further and further out to the open sea, towards the setting sun.

The true soul of " Féminité du bois " has departed forever

spoiled plums
I think this may be one of those fragrances that chooses its people. It hasn't chosen me. I keep retrying it every once in a while because it has so many notes in it that I usually love. (And I do like Fendi's Asja, which has a lot of them in it.) On me, it's plums that have just started to ferment, with a dusting of cumin. Yuk. (052809)

Cedar done well.
It opens with Cedar. There is a hint of spices (cinnamon, cardamom, ginger) behind it, but cedar dominates fully. It's a fresh, dry cedar. Like wood freshly removed from the kiln. After it warms up a bit a sweet musk with some added sweetness of plum and honey peek out. This is really a lovely transformation. The plum and cedar pair so nicely. It's an interesting pairing, preventing the scent from getting boring. There is also that spice mix peeking out, but it's very understated.
After a couple of hours I mostly get benzoin, plum and honey in front of the cedar with a hint of spices.
The dry down is all sandalwood, benzoin and a nice ginger zing. There is also a nice clean musk in there and a faint memory of the cedar, spices, and honey.
Overall a lovely scent with a nice progression. The sillage is personal, but more than a skin scent and the longevity was about 8 hours or so.

Gorgeous woody-oriental with sweet beeswax, but the strong cedar note tends to get stuck in my throat and can sometimes be a challenge.

Bold woods and spices. This (the original by Shiseido) comforts me deeply and is one of my all-time favorites.
