Still attractive after years
To be honest, I always found the bottle in the shape of a T-shirt a bit strange. It's almost like the creations of Jean-Pierre Sand, who fills his scents into containers designed as cars, motorcycles, planes, owls, watches, smartphones, saxophones, magic lamps, briefcases, handbags, boxing gloves, women's shoes, Eiffel towers, Brandenburg Gates, Burj Khalifa and many more.
This looks almost as kitschy as the outfit of a souvenir shop, but Sonia Rykiel's T-shirt is authentic, because she was known as a fashion designer for her high-priced knitwear collections and was also called the "queen of knitwear".
However, she has oriented herself more towards women's and girls' clothing. I'm not familiar with her designing fashion for gentlemen. Accordingly, a men's fragrance or especially an after shave is somewhat inconsistent - but anyway, I liked to wear it at the end of the 90s. Because not only the purple cardboard box and the light purple colour in the bottle appealed to me, but of course also the content.
At some point, Rykiel Homme was no longer available, which I regretted, but also felt was not quite so tragic. Nevertheless, I was extremely pleased when I rediscovered the lotion Après-Rasage together with cardboard packaging at a flea market in Düsseldorf a few weeks ago. Used, but still very well filled and almost fresh from the perfumery. Second Hand After Shaves are usually not my cup of tea, but with 7 € traded down I couldn't leave this snapper standing.
What convinced me about Rykiel Homme, then as now, was this fresh-fruity tangyness. At the end of the 90's he was one of the first men's fragrances to contain the exotic Yuzu with its fine slightly sour note. The grapefruit, which also occurs, remains largely in the background, with a little nutmeg and cardamom providing a minimal spiciness and mint and violet bringing in more of the fresh aspect.
As an after shave for spraying, the Rykiel Homme remains quite linear - you shouldn't wait for further developments. Nevertheless, it has this likeable summer sun beach aura and forms a small alternative to the usual aquatics or fresh fragrances. Welcome back!
