God of Fire: A creamy-fresh mango dream I Including comparison to Erba Pura
Many people compare the God of Fire with the Erba Pura and that's why I avoided the fragrance; well, at some point you come across a sample and my first thought: "Where do they smell Erba Pura?" The scents are worlds apart and let me explain that to you.
Before we make the comparison, however, I will first describe the God of Fire :
- The fragrance is a real pick-me-up; as soon as you spray it on for the first time, you are met with an extremely great (even if slightly synthetic) mango note paired with a great citrus. The opening is really mega revitalizing and the mango is top and above all fresh; there are many mango fragrances (e.g. Cruz del Sur II ), but in most of them the mango then goes in a rather warm direction very early on in the fragrance; here it is "cold and refreshing".
- The fragrance is then complemented by woody-creamy accords, which are probably produced by coumarin in the heart note - before it then goes into an ambery, creamy drydown. I think that one of the reasons why the fragrance performs so well is because amber and oud are used in the drydown. The oud is practically imperceptible, but gives the fragrance a noble, creamy character in the drydown with the musk-amber mixture.
- As indicated, the H/S is very good for a rather fresh fragrance; well, it's not a citrus bomb in that sense, but rather a fruity-creamy fragrance with a citrusy opening, but the performance is still very good for such a fragrance.
But now for the exciting part: how does God of Fire compare with Erba Pura :
1) The fragrances are both fruity yes, but that's it. Erba Pura contains a mixture of fruits, unlike God of Fire where one particular fruit stands out like the mango here.
2) The Erba Pura has few citric aspects in the opening, whereas in the God of Fire, ginger/lemon are clearly noticeable alongside the mango
3) In the drydown, Erba Pura becomes extremely musky; really bright, almost synthetically pungent musk in my opinion, which simply produces a headache. In God of Fire, the fruity mango develops into a woody-ambery musk base, which is carried by very light oud, far more creamy!
4) The performance of Erba Pura is of course beastly, the God of Fire is also in the upper segment in terms of performance, but is of course overshadowed by Erba Pura
I personally really like God of Fire and am more than satisfied with the overall package of fragrance DNA and performance and would always prefer it to Erba Pura. A really great and pleasing spring and summer fragrance (not in the heat perhaps)!
... and finally: if one had to draw a comparison to a Xerjoff, then rather to Cruz del Sur II ; but here, too, the differences are enormous or to Erba Gold , which is creamier than Erba Pura , but also does not have the mango note in focus. In this respect, it complements the Erba Pura fragrances :)
Have fun!
