Peat moss, booze, spices, resins, florals--a great dark and spicy ensemble.
Sampling Strangers Parfumerie Scotch Peat, a fittingly earthy, spicy, woody, slightly boozy mix, with a lengthy note list, but featuring peat moss, barley, hay, lavender, resins, dried fruit, cypress. It both transports me to the woods in winter and gives me the vibes of tavern or distillery, with liquor and food notes, both sweet and savory. It has a whole lot of character and is very strong. It incorporates the various ideas and genres without being too intense in any one particular respect, yet the result is still pretty intense overall, but dries down to be more subtle, very gradually, over a few hours but I’m very pleased with the composition and performance. Yet another great winner from this house.

Scotch Peat is priced at $80 for 30ml, the standard EDP pricing for the line, and is sold at Luckyscent and Indiescents.

Glenmorangie Signet
In the Northern Highlands lies the distillery Glenmorangie. More precisely in the town of Tain, not even counting 4,000 souls. Scotch has been produced there since 1843. At least it's been documented since then. The roots on the banks of the Dornoch Firth go back considerably further. But it was always "The 16 Men of Tain" who were responsible for the incredibly mild whisky on the boilers. The reason for this was among other things the highest blisters, which are more than five meters long and are looking for their equals. Here mainly lightly peaty barley from the region is mashed to create the special aroma of Glenmorangie.

Exactly this special handling with natural materials leads e.g. in the Glenmorangie Signet to a gentle peat aroma, which mixes with chocolaty and red fruit chords.

And that's how Scotch Peat smells. After lightly malted grain. The mash. Old oak barrels in which the old vintages take on colour and taste. The omnipresent aroma of whisky. In the cups of the Men of Tain as they were filled in the history of Glenmorangie always noon. And it's more like walking past the distillery. Their doors are open. The scent flows out into the cool air of the morning. Warm the stroller over the nose. Burns the aromas deep into the memory.

No alcoholic notes at all.

In addition, there are warm aromas of chocolate and fruit. And if you consider that patchouli and vanilla can sometimes create a chocolate aroma, the peat chord described here is more of a fresh, black, moist earth that blends with the caramelized tonka to form a slightly smoky chocolate chord.

Like the Glenmorangie signet.

The company's 400-odd employees, who work around the "16 Men of Tain" on the boilers, produce over millions of litres of Scotland's most popular whisky every year. The distillery has also been part of the LVMH Group for some time. There is hardly such a quantity of malting barley from such a small hinterland as around Tain to deny. But it is meticulously paid attention to the fact that the barley has the typical light peat formation.

But for special blends the original barley from the Dornoch Firth shore is still used.
