A nice bay rum blend...
So, for those who don't know, bay rum is a traditional cologne/aftershave typically used in gentleman's grooming. I think it originated from the days of the British West Indies and the Colonial Caribbean era. It was traditionally made by steeping bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon and other spices in virgin island rum for an extended period of time. The result was something that was used for medicinal purposes.
I have tried other bay rums, and it is a formula which, much like an eau de cologne, has subtle variations. This one by Taylor of Old Bond Street, I like. Out of the bottle the smell is a little overpowering, but on skin this smells wonderful. I sometimes use it after a shave on my skin and sometimes as a cologne. It works for both. I would suggest trying it first and acquainting oneself with this traditional, masculine barbershop item. It may be an acquired taste but I like it. A blend of cloves, bay and cinnamon. Spicy and aromatic. Not bad!
