The morning after
We're having mass. For a whole week. Including Saturday and Sunday. Every two years I visited the most important industry meeting place for our clientele with my former employer of many years. With a large team we were always on site. We spent the night outside in a cosy inn and drove in convoy to the venue in the mornings. At least for one or two days, the boss also arrived. And when the boss came, he treated us to something. He paid for our dinner and then bought us one round of schnapps after the other. We liked hazelnut schnapps best. A specialty from Austria made with roasted hazelnuts. Unlike fruit brandies, this one is heavily sugared, which means you can get a really bad hangover if you overindulge.

When I tested this Cabanel, launched in the crisis year of 2020, my first thought was of the aroma of this noble brandy. Those roasted hazelnut aromas that characterize this spirit immediately rose to my nose when I smelled it, and I couldn't help but think of the evening's festivities at the fair. Mmmh, yes. This is delicious. I'll take the second and third round with me. Chef is so generous.

The day after came the disillusionment. Most of us had to complete several days of stand duty after the boss's visit and felt correspondingly sucked dry. Everyone was smiling at the stand, of course, and some gentlemen tried to cover up the stale breath with a little more aftershave than usual, but that didn't always work.

Why did I only drink with all the rounds yesterday? Why do I feel soo bad? Je ne sais quoi! That's how one or the other of the sales staff felt the morning after. Everyone stood it out bravely, of course, but the head rebelled. So did the stomach.

And that's exactly what this perfume does to me. The name is cleverly chosen. It transports one namely in a relatively short time immediately to the morning after. The sweet roast aromas of hazelnut say goodbye after about 15 to 20 minutes and it comes through an unpleasant, artificially sweet sandalwood note. This is pervasive and crushes the fine nut aroma. This is joined by violet leaf and vetiver, which create an aftershave association for me. The sweaty note of sandalwood gives me the impression of the breath of many a former work colleague in the early morning after drinking alcohol. When will it finally be four? When can I, along with the customer, reach for a redeeming counter beer? So long the head hammers and hums on incessantly.

Nope, so this top note blender is no fun. Because he awakens in me exactly this image of the fun and later totally broken fair group. On paper, the sweet, roasted nut note lasts longer. On the skin, instead, one is confronted more quickly with the morning after.
I quickly went down from 9 to 6.5 with the rating here. Sorry Teo. If you wanted to represent with it olfactory that in the crisis year more alcohol was drunk. It has succeeded.

The dear Heikeso I thank you very much for the test opportunity.

nutty, grassy, fluffy, rich, & not particularly linear- the mid & base notes dance, rise and fall like foam on self-whisking matcha…fun!
