In the Fruit for Love
At the end of the thirties, beginning of the forties, actually not such a nice time now, at least outside of America, the very beautiful swing title "In the Mood" ("in the right mood") was created there, in the version of the Miller Big Band his Glenn probably one of the best known and most popular jazz pieces of all times
In 2000, Hong Kong Chinese director Wong Kar-Wei realized that this title actually cries out for an addition and made a very beautiful, melancholic film called "In the Mood for Love", at least for those who don't quite understand the Chinese title (花樣年華).

This opened a Pandora's box, and the phrase "in the mood for love" has been used inflationarily for all nonsense ever since. Since there is a practically unlimited number of rhyming words for "mood" in English, you can vary this very well, e.g. there is also a cookbook with sex-lust increasing recipes called "food for love". Very funny. If this works according to plan, you probably make yourself "nude for love", then an "intrude for love" follows and afterwards you are "screwed for love".

If you like gangsta movies, where it's really "rude for love", better than the bare facts, you can say to yourself "I would loot for love", then go over to "shoot for love" and when you have hit your heart with lead instead of Cupid's arrows in this way, the adored one is finally "mute for love".

This urge to rhyme could not be resisted by the various companies either and created here not, which would have been quite possible, a homage to Dutch football of the 80s ("Ruud for Love"), but an "Oud for Love". That's a very nice thing to say
I haven't dealt with the fragrance at all as long and as profoundly as Meggi did four years ago (see the first paragraph of Meggi's preliminary commentary) (Meggi, has your working-off come to rest since then or are you still at it?), but after a rather superficial test action I can say that this fragrance, and not only because of the rhyme but escht now, is quite in the Fruit for Love.

Especially at the beginning, I find it not only very easygoing and fluffy for an oud, but also very colourful and bubblegum-fruit-sweet. This does not necessarily correspond with the fragrance pyramid, but I don't care. Also in the further course of events, this remains an oud that, although in the background the wooden teeth are flapping and the eagle's claws are sharpening, but despite all this it is still very affable and friendly (almost soft like a piece of lost leather) and warm, wonderfully multi-layered, well-balanced and exactly balancing between flowers and spices. Not too cuddly, but also not full on the face, not kitschy and pompous, but also not abstract and headstrong. I really like such well-made "undecided" scents
I wouldn't necessarily buy the fragrance now, especially as I'm currently in a phase where I'd rather keep my collection stable than expand it, but if I put a "Boot for Love" in front of Santa's door and put the fragrance in it, I'd be delighted.

Oud For Gourmand Lovers...
Oud for Love opens with a fine aged whiskey note before quickly adding saffron spice with just a taste of the rubbery real oud to come. As the fragrance enters its early heart the early whiskey evaporates, leaving the saffron to join clove spice as compliment to the now starring oud with hints of sweet caramel, relatively thick castoreum and shimmering vetiver all rising from the base in additional support. During the late dry-down the castoreum becomes more prominent as the oud slowly fades adding just a tad of slightly sweet amber to soften the composition as the fragrance fades out. Projection is excellent, and longevity is stellar at about 12 hours on skin.

Oud for Love like its sister scent (Oud Shamash) displays what real oud is capable of in a composition when placed in the hands of a super-star perfumer like Bertrand Duchaufour. Here Duchaufour focuses on a more gourmand mix with its boozy open and sweet caramel-laced heart. The oud used here is far from obscured, playing a much more prominent role in the composition than its sister scent, but like that fragrance it never is obnoxious or wild, as the saffron balances it nicely allowing the oud to add depth and a roundness. It should be noted that the composition gets relatively sweet and at times especially in the early heart it can get dangerously close to being cloying, pulling back just short of crossing the line. At $210 for 50ml, Oud for Love is far from inexpensive in relative terms, but considering the real Laotian oud utilized along with its outstanding performance metrics the price is a better value than on first glance. The bottom line is that while I slightly prefer the less sweet and even more polished Oud Shamash of the two sister compositions, Oud for Love is an excellent 4 star out of 5 rated composition in its own right that gourmand lovers in particular should find extremely appealing. Highly recommended!
