venetian kitchen magic
The commission agent of the large Nuremberg company for delicacies with an attached Lebküchnerei had finally made his selection. The final formalities were discussed somewhat more casually over a glass of wine, and greetings were exchanged to all acquaintances.
Now, in one of the great Venetian mercantile houses, the shipment was prepared:
Everything put out, carefully weighed, and carefully packed!
If time permitted, the merchant lord always supervised this work himself.
The saying, "The master's eye makes the cows fat," applied here in Venice as well.
Also at stake was his good name; competition in Venice was fierce!
As he watched his staff work scrutinizingly, he sniffed: what an interesting, sense-touching blend of scents drifted through the room!
Despite his name, Odorato Sentito was not a sensualist, but a merchant through and through.
For him, numbers mattered more than feelings.
And yet...
This business was so far concluded, other things were to be done, but the aromatic scent of midday had taken root in his mind.
Provided with his order list, the merchant master picked out everything that had been ordered.
Even now, the contents of the sacks and boxes exuded a mixture of aromas that touched him strangely.
Following a surprising idea, he looked for the marble mortar and filled it:
Some nutmegs and rolled cinnamon leaves were crushed, precious saffron threads and dried heliotrope flowers were added.
Here Signor Sentito asked himself, "What am I doing here, am I not wasting the precious goods?"
But a hitherto unknown passion had seized him.
Chestnuts - where did they actually come from and what were they doing here in the exotics' camp? - were also being chopped up.
For the first time he applied the pestle; much force was needed to crush all that had so far been gathered.
The essential oils released by this crushing made his nose run and his eyes water! But he did not give up.
The rest of what was on the list was also added and vigorously crushed.
Suddenly he felt less like a merchant lord: was there, perhaps, a hitherto unknown alchemist dwelling within him?
Or did the devil have his tail between them?
Cautiously and a little frightened, he looked over his shoulder, but he was alone in his cubbyhole.
Now a little unsettled after all, he stirred the resulting mixture of scents once more and sealed the mortar in a small wooden box for the time being.
He was overwhelmed: What had he done? What had he let himself get carried away with?
The experienced scent artists at "The Merchant of Venice" certainly did not compose their "Oudelight" in the same way as Odorato Sentiso, who was surprised by his actions.
But it could have been! Perfume commentaries open many doors for fantasies, which is awakened and fed by fragrances.
After already first warming spiciness, heliotrope, dark purple robed, appears and leaves a light vanilla scent trail.
Chestnuts / chestnuts and incense send clear aroma signals and wrap the previous fragrance ingredients in dense fragrant smoke.
Something the senses deeply touching emerges here: is perhaps Aladdin's magic lamp nearby?
Woody and slightly earthy, enclosed by languidly flowing creamy vanilla, these smoky scents rise towards the finale: it is done!
Great sensual pleasure spreads already after the first skin touch of this fragrance!
"Oh, it's beautiful!"
This so simple statement is the first thing that comes to mind: spicy, warm, tuned with fine (chestnut) sweetness and wonderfully smoky!
No big hocus-pocus, rather a bit of "kitchen magic" leads to this me delightful result!
In the case of the bottling given to me by Can777, not even the so special flacon of the "La Fiamme Collezione" of this company can distract.
Of course, I well remember the promotional photo from one 4th Advent:
Four of those brilliantly glowing Murano glass flames in the deep pristine snow - simply visceral and expressive!
Commercial photography at its finest!
Durability and sillage are great; they allow you to fully indulge in this fragrance fullness and beauty for hours.
Sensual pleasure is capitalized with "Oudelight".
"Oudelight" is really delightful!
