An olfactory cloudy night
Oud; a very controversially evaluated ingredient and above all very multi-faceted. Only I, as a non-expert in this field, am able to recognize differences when it comes to cheap scents from Arabic countries compared to Alexandria Orientale or Boss Bottled Oud compared to Colonia Oud and so on. Sure, not everywhere where oud is written on it, there is real oud in it, but even so it is an ingredient rich in variations, but with a certain weight, a certain substance. In this respect I was surprised by an Oud Cologne. At first sight it was the least exciting fragrance from The Motley. How I was mistaken.
It's also strange that I only today wrote with the oud expert PallasCC, who in my eyes is the absolute oud expert and who is actually able to determine by smell where exactly the oud comes from. That there is Cambodian and Thai etc. was clear to me, but how something smells there, I do not know. She at least can. My nose is not able to determine exactly what kind of oud we have here or if it is even real. Anyway, it is probably another brown cologne
First, I notice one thing: marjoram. A subtle note runs through to the end, there are probably more associations that the combination of oud and myrrh evokes. The spicy-warm element meets the oud, which for me is spicy-bitter to earthy. These first impressions are relativized in that this overhang of spiciness gives the dry-earthy oud more and more space.
In general it is difficult to filter out individual notes. Only pepper can at least be credited with bringing new finesse and esprit to the fragrance. Leather is supposed to be included and I claim that this can only be seen as possible if you know leather in such colognes. This begs the question if this isn't too much of a good thing, when I look at the list of ingredients.
Undoubtedly, a very beautiful, linear fragrance. Oud is not my style, but this one is very foggy, to say the least. On top of that there is this spice which I consider to be a marjoram or even a Maggi mixture. I like such mixtures, in this respect a wonderful brown cologne. Unfortunately also with a miserable durability and sillage, so a purchase is out of the question. I'll close here, because the scent is very linear and the low H/S doesn't take me along enough although Oud Cologne itself is great. Oh, and cloudy because the cologne-like scent covers the oud like a veil
