White feathers, powdery wing beat
AugustA thinks right after spraying: Swan -- fits. White feathers, soft flapping of wings. Circles that draw in the water. Delicate powderiness, creaminess, some Nivea, some raspberry pink.

Tulle and Swan Lake. Fragile fine and flexible. You can't escape your charm once you've dared to spray a few brave sprayers. But that's what it takes. I can't smell a thing with a single scoop. And I don't mean anything by that. It just melts into the skin and is gone. But with some sprayers more comes up the memory of Hiris and afterwards of very cream-cosmetic iris scents, less lipstick than skin cream, for alabaster skin of course. Very sensitive to the sun and softly translucent. A porcelain complexion in scented form.

I was about to start bitching about the swan. Not quite my collar size. But then: after about a quarter of an hour, a harsh tone joins in and virtually takes the innocence away from the top note. Gives more depth to the fragrance. There's something woody or something like a black tea note. Slightly bitter, very delicious. Some fruit and more body. Beautiful! Like Osmathe Yunnan? Only with a thick cream layer.

Osmathus Iris Violet, one nobler than the other. Rare, precious and pleasant the effect. The initial purity melts in this bitter powderiness. It remains overall dry and bright.
In the light facet of the fragrance there is an interesting variation where it darkens a little and then shines pure white again. The woodiness of the violet, the bitterness do not make the scent narrative one-sided. Nobody is without flaws, nothing is without hidden sides. In that sense, yes, a little confusing. Great job. But not necessarily mine.

An hour has passed and the musk mixes with the powdered iris and the violet, the translucent porcelain fills with bitter, steaming black tea. The fragrance takes on a golden tone, which then changes again to a pale pink shimmer. The musk is wonderfully warm, and now the overall impression is not so clean anymore. One apricot and one wood note, cedar, dry and warm.
Change from blonde to brunette if you want. No longer neat, but matured in a few scent moments.
The finish is supple, soft, woody and now of a subtle spiciness that radiates comfort and confidence. The swan puts its beak under the wing after approx. 5 hours.

Although the first thing you have with this fragrance is of course the feminine associations - ballet, softness, powderiness, white and pink - I wouldn't want the scenario to be limited to a women's fragrance. The feminine masculine side could be fragranced very attractively here and the bitterness certainly makes itself just as beautiful on masculine skin as the apricot fruitiness on feminine skin.

Soft and lovely
What a lovely creation this is! While not smelling literally like nature, it does absolutely remind me of snow--or maybe imaginary snow that is perfectly soft, fluffy, and not cold! =) The florals are perfect. They are a perfect, harmonious blend, and they do not overtake the fluffy, creamy musks. I am not looking for a fragrance like this, but to me this overall is an 8/10, not easily forgettable. I would consider purchasing this in the future.

More Like An Ugly Duckling...
Swan Princess goes on with a tinge of bergamot citrus and slightly metallic floral cyclamen before quickly transitioning to its early heart. Moving to its heart the cyclamen and bergamot vacate as an absolutely huge super-powdery near almond-like heliotrope rises from the base, obliterating everything in its path save supporting cedar wood, and faint peony and rose florals. During the late dry-down the powdery almond-like heliotrope remains, coupling with semi-sweet, smooth sandalwood and slightly animalic musk through the finish. Projection is very good, as is longevity at 10-12 hours on skin.

The first outing from The Vagabond Prince, Enchanted Forest, was a drunken fruit punch focused dud despite being composed by the extremely talented Bertrand Duchaufour. After that fiasco, surely reenlisting Duchaufour for its next release, Swan Princess, must result in a better outcome, right? In a word, "Wrong." As bad as the initial outing was, this one is regrettably even worse. The key culprit is a torturous combination of supercharged powdery heliotrope and near synthetic smelling cedar wood that completely doesn't work. Duchaufour tries to bridge the gap with subtle floral peony, but while he has done a stellar job with that ingredient in the past in his brilliant Rose Cut for Ann Gerard, here it fails miserably. Things at this point become a pretty linear affair, and if one doesn't like what they sniff now, it doesn't get any better late. Knowing what Duchaufour is capable of I have to believe the real trouble with these compositions for The Vagabond Prince must lie in some unfortunate briefs he has had to work with. In truth, I am quite afraid to think what The Vagabond Prince will ask him to come up with next. The bottom line is the $200 per 100ml bottle Swan Princess is a messy floral woody concoction that its talented nose just "phones in," earning a "poor" 2 stars out of 5 rating and a solid avoid recommendation.

A synthetic smelling floral
Already when I put my nose to my sample (won in a raffle) I had the feeling I was not going to like it. That is how strong this floral scent smells. The notes of cyclamen, peony and heliotrope are not my favorites and usually scents containing those notes are scrubbers. This is the case here, too. The only soft feeling comes from a faint streak of musk. Which could be reminiscent of soft fluffy swan feathers, if one leans into dreaming romantic thoughts.

I just can't live with this perfume. Sorry.
