Without aloofness
Tom Ford fragrances mean for me endurance, power, opulent and massive perfumes, and BLACK VIOLET is a perfect example for experiencing all of these preconceptions/observations.

The scent is:
- lewd
- powdery
- strong
- sweet (soo sweet, that I would invoke coconut here)

Violet belongs to the most elegant and refined part of the flowers’ realm, a calm-cold beauty – but the violet in BLACK VIOLET is coughing from the powder. It depends certainly on body chemistry, on others it shows more citrus and is definitely more tartish.

The base tends to ooze the same notes on different skins - I smelled wallet of an old lady once, and it had almost the same fragrance. The very end is near to LOVE POTION no. 9 by Penhaligon’s (for Ladies of course).

Black Violet by Tom Ford
Black Violet Tom Ford

Nothing is ordinary about this heady scent
Everything is naturally extraordinary.
Extraordinary or even extravagant,
manufactured for a hedonistic lifestyle of sustainable beauty and eccentric elegance.

How wonderful!

Black Violet is
Overt hedonistic sexiness ....
TOM FORD at his apex of cool
designing for GUCCI! back in the 90's

A Humid Hothouse of Florals exuding strong scent of SEX!
Beautiful Men lost in boredom of a lush ORCHID filled room
or is it Sensual Torpor...wearing GUCCI Black Shirts...and little to nothing else....

Extravagant Rubelli textiles.....VENETIAN opulence.....
a purple laser cut velvet floral dress
languid and luxe...
Charlotte Rampling as imagined by HELMUT NEWTON at the NEGRESCO Hotel in Nice
MAD and BAD and Dangerous to know...

this fragrance promises danger....loudly
its not a Shrinking Violet at all... more like a poisonous flower

saturated scent which arouses strong sensations
in its pure essence, it dominates the space
after seducing you ....it retreats into the shadows of of those luxurious velvets.
..sweet fruity notes linger ... as they deliver us to reality

we....luxuriate in spreading confiture de myrtilles sauvages, wild berry jam
over our warm Blinis
realizing that the BELUGA caviar has long been finished....
ahhhhh how decadent ....

Not agreeable on my skin
I enjoy the impression of TF Black Violet, and I appreciate its uniqueness. It's a darkish floral with just a hint of grumbling underneath. BV dries to a woody floral, medium longevity and short throw. I don't find it as oakmossy or as powdery as others have reported, so I hesitate to mention those qualities. Overall, I think BV is best described as a masculine floral.

Unfortunately, TF Black Violet just doesn't seem agreeable on my skin. It's got an artificial synthetic quality to it, plasticity ... not a Barbie doll head, but more like dated plastic army men that have got a bit dusty and a bit warmed, perhaps. BV wafts in and out of magnificence, and it's in those moments of brilliance that I debate a purchase. However, it turns again, and I get that plastic army man again. I know, it's an impression. But at this price point, a mediocre scent on my skin, only occasionally punctuated with brilliance, is not a fragrance that I'll own ... or tolerant.

I see this as just on the femme side of unisex, but a violet that a man could easily pull off without any problem. I have difficulty wearing masculines, so perhaps that's why I have difficulty with TF Black Violet.

Personally, I have fallen for Violet Blonde, of which I have a full bottle. In the TF Private Blend line-up, it's Noir de Noir that tops my list. But this one ... Let's just say that I'm glad to only have a small rollerball of TF Black Violet.
