When it comes to "Tom Tailor", one must distinguish between the actual fashion brand and the parent company "Tom Tailor Holding SE". In the public's perception, however, "Tom Tailor" usually refers to the fashion side of the Hamburg-based brand.
In early 1962, businessmen Uwe Schröder and Hans-Heinrich Pünjer founded their label "Henke & Co.", which initially imported men's pants, shirts, underwear, and bath towels. Since one of the most popular pairs of pants bore the name "Tom", the tailoring term was added, and the company was renamed "Tom Tailor".
In the years that followed, the company primarily focused on everyday wear and leisurewear, before introducing its first own sportswear series in 1979. The label thus strengthened its market presence and was restructured several times. In 1989, for example, the "Tom Tailor Sportswear Handels GmbH" was formed, becoming "Tom Tailor AG" in 1999. After further ups and downs, the company filed for insolvency in 2020 and now belongs to one of the largest corporate networks in China.
The collection of "Tom Tailor" includes women's and men's clothing, kids and teens collections, as well as a wide range of accessories (bags, glasses, shoes, etc.). The brand is now present in more than 30 countries worldwide. The collection is offered in stores, online, and several franchise stores.
