The best Hartz IV fragrance
Smells spicy and above all very aromatic, still some classic wood to it, all in one a very successful mixture for little money, the whole negative comments I can not join at all, because probably the price must have played a negative role in the fragrance evaluation.

What is a minus for me is the compatibility on the skin, since the mixture burns with me quite, since I would rather recommend use on clothes.

Otherwise, the Halbarkeit with about 6 hours, for everyday life is also completely fine.

P.S. - 3 years later...
Unfortunately, after Lilial removal from the recipe - has become only a watery Abklatsch
From former fullness and power nothing remained. :(
From fragrance it was a Dali Pour Homme (1987) twin.

Little budget, great pleasure
This scent is really magic: with a budget of about 7 € you can enjoy or make a present of a really good scent: well balanced, deep, aromatic, masculin but not heavy, easy to wear and young but perfect for mature men too. At the first spray on the mouillette I smelled mainly the aromatic notes, then the woody heart arrived and finally I smelled the patchouli base, warm and not at all too "earthy".
The sillage is average in comparison to the price and the bottle is nice. Why don't you try it?

Powerful elixir of citrus, floral and spice flavors
Although released more than 20 years ago, it's not outdated, yet so damn modern, fresh, soft, and fierce, a masculine perfume with a new Cyprus freshness. This fragrance is woody-fougére-oriental and shares some facets with Zino by Zino Davidoff, being not closely akin or a clone of it.

UDVM opens with a fresh citrus sensation, a blast of lemon and tangerine blended with crisp spearmint. I can clearly distinguish the lemon-minty artemisia leaves, similar to Lemon or Citrus thyme, the green accord of galbanum, and the aromatic rosemary.

That virile citrus aroma makes me think about a summer scent, but suddenly I have to change my mind. The force of aromatic freshness with tarragon, rosemary, and mint, lead the scene to a woody effect of unsoiled vetiver, softening upon contact with animal musk notes.

The base notes orbit around a particularly mannish bitter patchouli and spread sweetie vanilla, honey, and tobacco on wild musky notes. Oh man, I didn't know that patchouli and honey go together well until I met this underrated sensational beauty! The dry-down notes leave a trail that is reminiscent of Zino Davidoff.

UDVM is a refined, nearly unique, and incredibly modern fragrance that makes a masculine signature. Fresh, but not marine or aquatic, in the opening, woody and sugary in the dry down. I counsel this for cooler temperatures like fall and winter, both day and evening. Since it is long-lasting but not overpowering can be safely worn at work. Longevity and sillage are above the average on my skin, an exceptional fragrance. An exciting thing, this and all the other UDV perfumes are sold in the mass market at a very affordable price. To me, this scent deserves a complete 8/10. Don't be scared by the bad UdV sign of the bottle, which brings me to think about something close to Bram Stoker's Count Dracula or whatsoever; the raw juice inside is worth it!

Of woods and woodsmen...
OK. let's see...How about a total paradox in modern perfumery's logic, living mostly in supermarkets and hiding (or is it lurking?) in their lower shelves.

Although it came out in 1993, its one of the most '80s fragrances out there. Perhaps 1993 was too close to the '80s to leave their influence out of the picture.

Compared with the watered-down versions of the '80s classics, it totally stands out, being in a league of its own.
Nothing sweet or dainty about it, just acrid citruses, bitter woods and tangy herbs, all mixed up in bucket-loads of excavated soil. If you wanna smell like a landslip, or like a lumberjack roaming the log-made bars in his vicinity during his day off, look no further. Whether these bars are in Alaska or Siberia doesn't really matter. Since he stands amongst the ones who built them, he'll always be welcome to every single one of of them.

Bought for pocket change, it coped extremely well with a little trick I played and managed to convince people that it's an outrageously priced and very hard to find niche creation. Yes, I know I should be ashamed about that, but I never let a chance to bash the occasionally arrogant niche foofaraw slip by unused. After all Ulric de Varens does sound like something that costs a gold sovereign per bottle, and the UDV acronym sounds hi-tech enough to support my scenario and worth my imaginary price.

It also kinda proves my theory that since there must be some sort of rock bottom in how cheap their ingredients may come, cheap scents are less likely to be reformulated over the years. So in some cases, there's a good chance that cheap fragrances smell way better than the current versions of pricy designer fragrances which have become the ghosts of their former selves.

It's strange, unexpected, behind the times and way more Azzaro pour Homme than Azzaro pour Homme. In other words, a true real deal.

So yes a total paradox, but by no means a fallacy. Fallacies are the privilege of fragrances tenfold its price, when they try to convince us that their reformulations were inevitable, due to whatever lame arguments they may come up with. Ulric de Varens doesn't seem to believe them. And neither do I...

Albeit it was released nearly 20 years ago, it's yet modern&cool. Opens zesty, goes sourly in the middle, and last dirty and sugary. Love it!
