The oriental clean, this time sweet and spicy
And again, I'm hauled fully into the notch of a very liked by me fragrance genre, the essences from the Orient. Ulric de Varens is quite present as a drugstore fragrance, delivers at one point or another solid copies for a good price. While researching the Varens fragrances, I came across the two oriental scents in the range. The "blue" d'Orient Nomad and the "red" Elixir. Here, of course, it is primarily about the Nomad. In Germany you can hardly get these two fragrances at the moment (because probably the niche of the niche). Nevertheless, I got hold of one each from a not too well known online perfume shop. Total with delivery 17€ for both, that can be seen and heard.
Both flacons are identical, only the colors and names distinguish them. The Nomad is held in a beautiful blue, with golden inscription. The lid in "chrome" blue. The sprayer works very well and is shiny gold in color. Fits very well with the oriental flair. Visually and haptically really very successful, surprising for the price.
Now to the inner values of the Nomad. Only 5 ingredients? As is well known, it is not the quantity that matters here, but the quality. And this is sensationally good. The apple and saffron provide here for a very clean-spicy and strangely slightly fresh opening. Slightly similar to washing powder but in a positive sense. Have you been to any of the local supermarkets on holiday in Turkey? Just like the washing powder smell there in the store, that's pretty much exactly how the Nomad's opening smells. Quickly, the sweet tonka and vanilla tip into the "washing powder", which really sends the cleaner in the oriental direction. And what gets washed so beautifully? Leather, the fifth and final note in Nomad. A really well done and necessary component in the fragrance that works very well with the tonka and vanilla. Leather is also the component that adds a touch of heaviness to the fragrance. To my sensibilities, there is a two stage progression in this fragrance. First the apple and saffron (more saffron than apple) and then the sweet notes with leather blending with apple and saffron.
Overall, a very nice oriental that not only smells like 1001 Nights, but also maintains a certain clean character. And that for almost gift. The durability is solid with 8 hours, the sillage above average. It suits winter, spring and fall in my opinion. In summer, I would only wear it in the evening when going out. As an everyday fragrance it is perhaps too "different", you have to try it out. Nomad is more for men. Of course it is not written in any law that the ladies of the guild are not allowed to wear it. It's just that, in my opinion, the scent wouldn't suit women. The Elixir, whose review will follow very soon, is rather unisex. This one would suit women as well. Just try both fragrances, they are not expensive, there is not much to lose here. You'll have to see if you can get the scents in DE.
