Vintage bridal
This was a semi blind memory purchase. I remember having a sample of this from back in 2002 when it first came out. Somehow this Spring it was really on my mind, and finally I found a bottle today at Kohl’s which I could not resist. So my memory must be quite a fragile thing after all- I would be a great perfume designer myself if it truly smelled how I thought I recalled it. In reality it smells wonderful, but not as I imagined alas! It’s a vintage now classic white floral perfume that was a bridal perfume back then. Now it’s discontinued but you can still find it in some stores and online for relatively low price. It did remind me of 5th Avenue perfume, but this is so much better. It doesn’t have the bitterness of 5th Avenue and lasts so much longer. I would not say it has strong projection either. I can’t say it’s appropriately bridal to my mind. It does not feel very romantic to me, instead it’s a very classy everyday scent appropriate for work and meetings with the in laws. It’s on the conservative side, but it’s still very soft and pretty. I mainly smell a mixture of lily of the valley and white lilies with a bit of sandalwood. It’s a very blended vintage smell, not at all a modern vanilla plus jasmine and florals deal. If you’re not into vintage classics, then don’t blind buy this one. Because it doesn’t have that modern sweetness of vanilla, it has an almost masculine vibe. Some expensive hotel soaps smell like this a bit. I am still testing it, so we’ll see what my final take might be. In the end, I decided to let go of it because it just ended up smelling very soapy clean and a not a touch of sweetness or lightness was present. It didn’t seem to work for me now for whatever reason, but mainly because I need more lightheartedness in my life now. If you need something not sweet and with a bit more seriousness, then go for it.

The scent of a sea of flowers...
I am not a huge fan of overly floral - or even "flowery" - fragrances. It must not be madamlike with me, and I would not like to smell too mature - yet.

Strange then that I had chosen Vera Wang as one of my few blind purchases. Completely without even having read a description - or looked for it - I clicked my way through until the fragrance was ordered and on its way to me. The bottle, the white packaging, the simple design... some of it will have caused me Not least the price - because for this fragrance something around 20 € is a bargain.

To the fragrance:

I'm not very firm when it comes to botany - I can hardly or not at all smell individual flowers, as I don't know what the individual flowers smell like in general.

For me the course would be simply described:

Head: Rose (one of the few flowers I can clearly smell out)
Heart: white gardenia (in my imagination it is white - no idea if another colour would have a different scent?)
Base: woody notes

The fragrance is wonderfully balanced - it is never too much, and yet always there. I think "neat" is the right word for it. With me he keeps his 8 hours. Sillage is not room filling, but it is also not close to the body.

Vera Wang is one of the few fragrances that I would reach for no matter what the occasion, it does not bother me.

Conclusion: A beautiful fragrance. One of the few floral fragrances in my poison cabinet that I really like - and have liked for a long time.

Lovely everyday scent
I tried this fragrance when it first appeared in 2002 - and found it to be just an average type of floral. But this summer a nice saleswoman threw a sample of "Vera Wang" into my shopping bag and I tested the perfume again. Wow! A really nice scent, not too heavy, not overwhelming, just right! Floral-fresh, a white bouquet. At first I could not believe how incredibly comfortable this bright mixture of stephanotis and roses seemed to me. "Predilections keep changing," that's my daughter's comment.
She's right! So I bought a bottle - and so far I have not regretted the purchase.
I don't perceive any gardenias in this scent, only stephanotis, white roses, lilies and a touch of white musk. "Vera Wang" is always referred to as the perfect bridal perfume. For such an occasion, "Vera Wang" would seem too unobtrusive to me. It's an "everyday kind of perfume", for mornings when you don't want to overpower anybody in your presence by strong chypres or orientals. Interestingly enough, I get lots of compliments for "Vera Wang", even by people who normally don't comment on fragrances at all. If you like classic, feminine, flowery perfumes you should give "Vera Wang" a chance. The scent has more to offer than I initially thought.

Not what I'd wear for a wedding
Vera Wang is another one of those Summery wedding fragrances.

To my nose, this fragrance is a rather intense floral blend with subtle citrus undertones and a hint of freshness. The rose, gardenia and lily tend to be the strongest floral notes throughout, however although pleasant, there is nothing particularly outstanding about the way it has been composed.

Beautiful this scent certainly is, however I do crave more depth and character. Vera Wang doesn't evoke any strong feelings or themes for me. It is neither romantic nor memorable, which should be the requirements for a wedding scent.

Personally I find Vera Wang to be more casual than elegant and sophisticated. This fragrance is unfortunately not compatible with my skin either, as it tends to turn sour towards the drydown.

I had high hopes for this fragrance, as a rich and creamy white floral. However the jasmine, gardenia and lily notes tend to create a clean-like quality that may be classic and pleasant, but it's also not to my tastes.

As in regards to Vera Wang's lasting power, it is rather average and disappointing for its high price tag. I somehow expected more from this famously renowned designer label.
