The scent of Italy

Love this unsung treasure that was thrown into my lap via eBay for a sick price so naturally I jumped on it. This particular bottle is vintage and it's quite old so I was very pleased when I found the scent still in remarkable condition. Since this was launched in 1981 this bottle looks like it's from the mid 1980s at least. The scent is minty forest like fresh and the performance is quite good. It's a little bit harsh in the beginning but that eventually calms down and settles nicely for the next 6hrs or so. Considering it's an EDC that kind of longevity is a God send. It reminds me of those post WW2 Mediterranean marvels like Pino Silvestre and Acqua di Selva with much better longevity. This is definitely an older man's cologne and young people won't have much to do with this Classic and that's a pity considering the slop that's being shoveled out currently. I think they're making around 10,000 bottles a year aren't they?? Lol Anyway Victor Fresco was a nice surprising find for me and it fits very nicely with the rest of my collection.

Fresco? Freddo, freddissimo!

Hingesplasht, and hey, this summer water scares with hissing cold lemon! Immediately a glistening bright and hard nerolino note is added - monotonous, no changing in darker and warmer tones of other citrus fruits.

Soon the character changes from light yellow to dark green, but it remains cold: mint of the type Fischerfreund. Gradually the cold passes and a little mugginess arises. Swampy coriander, mushroomy thyme and dull lavender produce a mixture that is probably quite daring even for lovers of pronounced herbaceous-green scents. Then a strange note flickers up, slightly burnt and cinnamonish, and causes unrest. It is the sweet and spicy tree blossom Ylang-Ylang, which could have been the highlight of the perfume if unfolded correctly.

After less than half an hour, the scent becomes flatter, freshness and herbaceousness are perdu, only a touch of tender citrus remains. On my skin, which is otherwise so susceptible to wood and moss, the base remains silent. Adding more does not help, this only reinforces the matt-green heart note.

Scusa: "Fresco" is not cool and fresh, rather cold and musty. Too bad that this Cologne develops so mau with me. The eau "Original" by Victor with a similar summery-Hesperidic character, on the other hand, I like exceptionally well

Agrestic Cologne

An old school Italian cologne; green, herbal and fresh.
It has the ambience of a café in the hills, tobacco stained and rustic, filled with working men (only men - this is a rough and ready style where the notes are clearly defined; there -is- a floral heart and vanillin, but Fresco has no truck with the dandified haze of Acqua di Parma Colonia.)

If you like Coty's Emeraude -and- Blenheim Bouquet you'll do fine with this; it's got the bonhomie and green baize, but none of the snobbery.
