The steppe
There are many perfumes named after the name of an animal, but they don't keep this promise regarding their effect and aura. With antelope, however, this is quite different. This perfume rightly bears his name. Antelopes are very aesthetic, elegant and shy creatures. The old and unfortunately no longer existing house Weil had captured the magic of this animal in its name giving scent. And in my opinion this was more than successful.

The fragrance
An airy-citric start from light aldehydes opens the top note with gentle hints of spices that still remain in the background. In my opinion, these are nuances of cinnamon bark and nutmeg. Relatively quickly follows the heart note from an armada of spicy, dry and not sweet flowers. A delicately animalic jasmine and a herb-green rose stand out the most for me. This flowery impression is superimposed by Iris who covers everything like the dusty sand in the steppe of the Kalahari. All components are already wonderfully interwoven at this time, but what makes antelope so special is its leathery, delicate base note. A slightly sweaty sour leather appears and the spices that were visible at the beginning come back and intensify. Ultra delicate and filigree-animalic. An earthy-nutty vetiver and a dry, powdery-warm amber chord underline this highly aesthetic base perfectly.

Conclusion
Antelope is the shy dynamic of elegance. As delicate and elegant as the animal it was named after. There's nothing loud or intrusive here. Despite its relatively quiet appearance, the perfume has an enormous presence and endurance. It's literally too fast to be noticed for long. But if it is, it's like this aesthetic creature is standing right in front of you. Proud, powerful, free but with a very shy reserve. Antelope symbolizes the wild and fragile aesthetics of women. In my opinion, this comparison has been an excellent one. Antelope is like the silhouette of this animal in the sunset of the Kalahari Steppe.

Admirable but too shy to be touched.
Unless you win their trust!

A bitter aldehyde opens with clary sage herbal feel opens the dry presentation. Antelope was very chic in the 50s-60s. A soapy lilly of the valley, lilt of rose and faint jasmine open the heart atop a dry vetiver, oakmoss and musk base. Austere, powdery, animalic-ambergris,civet, musk, vintage leather tones and minimal floral is the idea behind antelope. It grows on you.

If your into Lentheric Tweed or Cabochard- this middle ground grassy classic is for you.

Not unlike Miss Dior Originale
If you're one for old-school classics, especially those with a good powdery dose of aldehydes, Weil's Antilope is for you. Please note that the following review is on the reformulated Antilope, and has no reference to the original.

Antilope, to my nose, is both powdery and earthy. The powdery aspect is very pleasing to my nose, however it is interrupted by a beautiful oakmoss accord, sending it into chypre territory. It reminds me of Miss Dior (the original), a majority of the time, with that same powdery-chypre feel.

It wears rather smoothly, not cloying nor ostentatious by any means. To some, Antilope may come across as being dated and mature, but I am quite welcoming to these qualities. Antilope has a strong sense of character and I like that.

The drydown is a touch animalic, which makes it a little less pretty than your regular floral aldehyde. I actually prefer it this way, with its somewhat dirty musk approach. You do have to be in the right mood for it though.

The lasting power was quite impressive, lasting a good four or so hours, before beginning to fade. I believe my sample is the EDC. Admittedly I like my aldehydes a touch fresher and creamier, but this fragrance has shown me a more masculine and muskier side. I recommend.

Vintage Antilope, a clary sage-white flower dream
I have three beloved fragrances, all vintage, that can be described as aldehydic chypre with, in addition to the bergamot/rose/oakmoss signifier, a heart of white flower, vetiver, clary sage, plus what my nose detects as a civet, whether or not it's listed. It is an intoxicating yet comforting smell I think of as "lotiony", and I've yet to experience it in a modern scent. The other two are My Sin and Miss Dior. I would love to find this exquisite drydown in a modern fragrance. So far, no luck. Of the three Antilope is my favorite.

ps - The modern versions, esp the EDC in the hexagonal bottle as pictured, bears no resemblance. Go vintage or go home on this one.

Antilope
This one came out during the craze for aldehydes where the rage and this hapends to have aldehydes this one has more of an exotic tinge to it chanel no 5 has more of a sparkling bergamot and lemon weil's antilope more is a musky
leather of a perfume.

The word Antilope more you think of a african serengeti and i'm thinking of a
exculsive hunters country club in narobi
kenya where hauty british colonial aristrocrats sipping on their champagne
or watching a stampead of zebra elephant lion all the animals of the plains of africa. or the sunset on the african horizon.
